My husband is deployed until September 19th and I am trying to make a list of things to do while he's gone. I don't want to spend money, so things around the house are great! Do you have any ideas that I could do? We live in southern Alabama and we have a 6 1/2 month old daughter. I will take all the answers I can get. Thanks for helping!

  1. Hmm. I live in south/central Alabama so I can sort of help you there. I'm not sure since your'e daughter is so little, would you want to take her to the pool? A walk in the park or neighborhood? I'm not sure but you could stay home and watch movies or paint her nails or something? Haha..idk. that wasnt much help : /

  2. Check out raisingthem.com for local playgroups in your area. If there's not one - you can start a group on there.

I am a crafty person - so I'd make things -- make a scrapbook, write / make letters to daddy, maybe an online scrapbook so he can see pics.... If you have a digital camera it will cost you nothing...

Take videos, Make craft stuff with/for baby - flash cards, little books, she can 'paint' with icing or baby food.

Redo a room, get those little projects around the house done, plant some plants - in pots or in yard outside, frame pictures, make pillows (I can't sew but those are EASY!!) Make your own Christmas cards -- they'll be done early this year!! Or send everyone a card with pics of baby. Catch up with old friends - chat with other moms online (email me - I'll talk to you!!)

Take walks with baby - I know it is too hot -- evening walks are nice - watch movies - set aside time for Dr. Phil!!

Read to baby -- teach her ABCs and counting -- she'll learn quick - Read those books with real photos - she'll learn even though she can't talk. Make a book of pics of Daddy & other family members for her.

Make your favorite meal - make her cupcakes, make your own baby food - find new recipes online - maybe you'll become a gormet cook just because it is something to do!!

I like reading parenting forums - todaysparent.com has a nice one - its in Canada, but the ladies are really nice. This site is also amusing - and you can learn a lot about parenting. I also love shopping online - I have no money to buy stuff, I just like to look and get ideas.

Anyway - just some ideas -- I am stuck at home with two little ones - so I have had to come up with ways to amuse myself to break up the endless days of diapers and Cheerios!!
