My husband is from Mexico & I am from Kentucky, we want to find his roots in Mexico .?

We know have a son & want to start a family tree. Can anyone direct us to a FREE website that does genealogy research. Im getting frustrated with these other websites. We would love any answers anyone has.

  1. Don't forget to trace church records if you have location information.


  2. Mexico doesn't have very much on the internet. It's very expensive to maintain online databases and they have intentionally chosen not to do it.

    You'll have to write to the city hall in the town(s) where his parents were born, then his grandparents, etc to get the records. You can also write to the parish where he was born and any other parishes where his parents/grandparents may have been baptized, married or buried from and request copies of the records from the sacramental registers.

    There are a few censuses and a few other films available through the LDS, but not for the entire country. You'll have to snoop around the catalog at http://www.familysearch.org to see if they have anything that can help you.

  3. I don't think you'll get very far trying to use the internet.  Start your research with the town/city he was born in, where he grew up... etc.  Information travels faster by word of mouth here sometimes than by any other means.
