  1. It is possible that you will be able to do this by mail through the Uruguayan consulate in Washington--most embassies can do things like visas and passports by mail.  He will need:

-his identity card (Cédula de Indentidad), which he can only get in Uruguay, so he presumably has this already

-a certificate of good conduct (e.g., police record)

    -two color photos

    -$84 money order

-a report stating that his old passport has been destroyed or lost

You should call the Embassy ASAP.  Their phone lines are open Monday-Friday 11AM-1PM and 2PM-4PM.

  2. Although the requirements to replace your husbands passport would be the same as Kelly C states. You would have to apply to the Uruguay consulate at:

Address: 1077 Pone de Leon Blvd., Coral Gabels, FL 33134

    Phone: (305) 443 9764/7453

    Fax: (305) 443 7802

    E-mail: consulado@uruguaymiami.com

    Official: Felipe Velázquez

    Consular District or Jurisdiction:

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Puerto Rico, South Carolina and Tennessee

Also the passports are handled by consulates only. There are both a Embassy and a consulate in Washington DC but you are out of the consulates jurisdiction. Which is why you have to apply to the consulate in FL.

  3. your husband must go to the Uruguay Embassy in the country he is now in.
