He is considering Military Police.. I know that the Army is dangerous, but common sense tells you that certain MOS choices are less dangerous than others.. Don't misunderstand me, I don't mean less likely to deploy, I just mean less likely to be front and center after deployment... Like I said I do understand that everything can be dangerous, especially serving your country, but that doesn't mean I want my child to be without Daddy, you know? I was told MPs work on the bases with the soldiers... seems safer than Combat Engineer.. Any comments?

  1. Boyfriend left to basic 1month ago to become an MP also.

like the others have said... the job varies. it could be as simple

as a police officer on base to as tough as gaurding top secret

    places in Iraq. well..

good luck to you and your family.

remember your not in this alone!!

  2. Life is dangerous.  Check the stats as to how many people die as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

The best advice I can give is to look at a job that offers the minimum amount of active service (just in case he does not like it) and what he can apply that training to when and if he gets out.  Law Enforcement (MP) can have a direct influence later on if he decides to get out and join a Police Force.

  3. My husband is also leaving for basic very soon an we have been going over the jobs he is able to choose from, and MP was one until I did some researchh, and its not for our family, he will get deployed every othere yr and MPs are attached to infintry units, he is right there braking down doors and at check points, Im not trying to scare u or try and get my hubby a pu$$y job, but we have a family and want him back safe. But do some research talk to prior military, and he mit just be stationed overseas or at the brig in fort knox, with the army u never no.

God bless u and ur soldier!

  4. MPs, actually, are quite prone to deploying and serving in a police capacity in a war zone. If you want a safer job, something like aviation operations is pretty safe.

  5. my bf is a mechanic and hes in Iraq and he never leaves the base cause the hangar where they work out of is on base.he fixes the humvees and some other equipments.he can also try to become a mechanic that fixes the tanks and bradleys.they are two different MOS's.good luck!

FYI he gets deployed about every 15 months and there are times where he works 18 hour days and works for weeks in a row with no days off. every job in the military has its good and bad points.

  6. All I am going to say is if he decides to go in, stand behind his choice you both know whats at stake., and the sacrifices he will make but you and your children will be taken care of as the insurance and benefits are good for families.

IED's do not descrimate MOS's, neither do bullets.

MP's and Engineers get hurt and killed, with that said an Infantry soldier such as myself is more likely to see combat, its possible he may given his choice of MOS.

By the way MP's have horrible hours while not deployed. He will be at work whjen everyone else is off. FYI

  7.   I am one of 3 brothers serving in the US ARMY at this time. my younger brother Nick is a 31B an MP. His unit only deploys by squads at a time.. meaning 10-15 soldiers. they rotate to Afghan and Iraq on 1 year rotations. They also do peacekeeping and political protecting missions in other countrys such as romania and in Kosavo. The types of missions they do vary.. they do patrols thru the streets of Iraq and afghanistan. they provide security details for political figures and high ranking military leaders.. it all depends on what mission is dictated by thier major command.. meaning which brigade or division they are attached to as MPs mostly deploy at company or battalion levels.

  8. It really depends on the unit he ends up in, what situation he will be in, Just be prepaired, terrorism is not just at the " front lines".

  9. well it all depends, every job has a lot of dangers, but remember if it dosent say MP in the contract there is no guarantee that he will get it. it all depends what he is going to be doing in the end as being an mp, they can be cops on base, or they can guard the prison on base, things like that. honestly i don't think they are in really any danger good luck

  10. if you are talking about going to war mp's man check points secure gates to base, do convoy security. at home there just like regular cops on the base. i wouldnt say its the safest of jobs but if you think about it there have been hundreds of thousands of soldiers in iraq and afganistan and about 5000 have been killed olds are still in his favor if your time is up its up i been to iraq twice and im here typing to you:)

  11. My husband is a combat engineer. It's a very dangerous job. MP's are no joke. Sure, mp's patrol the base, but they also patrol Baghdad. They deploy frequently and when they are home they patrol the post.Your husband will see more action as infantry, eod, an engineer or an mp than other jobs.

My husband looks for IED's and when he's in Afghanistan he does infantry with c4 strapped to him. Good times!

Anyway, have your husband look into Combat Engineers. It ain't for everybody!
