I visited Tijuana before and I really didnt like it but I have managed to find some beautiful houses there and I am wondering whether or not it is safe to live there. I know right by the border it is very scary but the houses are price accordingly 15 mins away, being that we have a house in the state I am in that we are paying a mortgage on and we are bring pets liviing in cali is going to be expensive. I mean one of the rentals is like 2200 sq ft. Built in 2007, with brand new everything and they look amazing! They have 24 hr security and gated fences... but I wonder if anyone has ever stayed long periods of time there and whether or not its safe. I mean I know there are good parts and bad parts to every city. I am going to be there alone alot when my husband is deployed when I finally move there. So any one with Tijuana living experiencing people give me some insight.

  1. Why TJ ? Proximity to California ? The low cost housr ou found ?

I'm retired and living in Acapulco. Great town, price of a house is incredibly low , beautiful weather and beach and best of all TAX free !.

My point is Mexico is cheap and beautiful. Come on down and look around dont limit your choices in Mexico.

I surely would pick Acapulco over TJ.........

  2. I don't have experience living in TJ, but there are many US retirees and expats living there. You can find some discussion groups/forums on the web by doing a google search on "living in Tijuana".

  3. Im a little concern about Tijuana`s image.

Tony D made my blood boiled, in case you dìdnt knew, they are many narcotrafficants here! (by the way, they live in the pretty neighborhoods) they have to live here to pass the drug to california, because USA is the 1st drug consumer, so it is your country`s fault that we Tj`s live like this! in the middle of narco`s vs others narco`s -FBI-polices and militars battle, we regulary people dont get involved, unleast we are rich we get kidnaped, or if you are outrageous, thats not a good idea if you live in TJ, dont dare to use your new agency BMW, cause car roberys, are sooo common, you just need a regulary working vehicle or a good insurance to live in peace.

I was born here, Im 22 and never lived any security problem, I`ve lived at san diego chula vista for few monts and I missed my city, california is so boring!

We most of people live well and "safe" If it wasnt like that, we didnt live here! dont you think? . They are beautiful secure places here, I recomend you to visit "Aguacaliente`s zone" for beautiful big houses -(little expensive) at safe zone, or "Chapultepec" well. Im sure your can find something and for sure cheaper!

By the way! about your pitbull, there is a new law against this dogs, personaly I totally aprobe it! check animal control before bringing him, you need permission to have those animals.

  4. You can not just move to Mexico.

    There are immigration issues.

The FM 3 and FM2 ISSUES LAST AROUND 10 YEARS.

You will need money in the Bank .  You need to have a income of $1200.00 a month or a multiple of 12 times that to qualify for an annual FM 3.

You will however have the protection of the "Fideicomiso"

There were a couple that signed papers unwittingly giving their property over to a Lawyer who quickly sold it  and disappeared

If its any consolation there are 3000 less Cartel members than the previous year.
