Question:

My husband is making really weird noises at night?

Occasionally I wake up to my husband making very strange, terrifying noises. I wouldn't say they were wheezing sounds, but when he breathes in its loud and sounds painful. The first time I heard it I thought it was a cat or a baby crying. I wake him up every time, and he just apologizes and goes back to sleep. He isn't short of breath, and doesn't seem to really have any symptoms of Sleep Apnea. What could it be? (He doesn't have asthma, but he does get allergies sometimes).

  1. well that's what I was thinking - sleep apnea.  If he's waking up each time it sounds like he on his last breath it is sleep apnea.

  2. It could be a simple case of snoring, some people make some rather odd noises with snoring, and you could try one of those strips that they apply to see if this could be the problem.

If it does persist, and there seems to be a problem, it wouldn't hurt to have a doctor check him out.

I suppose that it could be the beginning of a sleep apnea condition, also, it doesn't just appear instantly.    But you may want to try the anti-snoring strips.    Even if he's not uncomfortable with this, you must be losing sleep.

  3. Please make an appointment to see a Pulmonary Dr. He can decide exactly what the obstruction is or if he should have a sleep study.

  4. Your husband would wake up himself if it were asthma symptoms.  There are different levels of sleep apnea as well as other sleep disorders.  You might him do a sleep study to get an official diagnosis.

  5. he should see a dr
