He is going to extend for a total of 2 years. So we can be closer to family for support.

  1. If he's in the Army, yes, that's possible.  He can request that in his orders when he goes to his levy brief.  Even if it's his first duty station.  I recently worked as a Department of the Army civilian, cutting PCS orders for Soldiers graduating from AIT.  You can move anywhere you want, it doesn't HAVE to be to his home of record.

Why are you planning for him to extend two years?  They'll move you even if it's only one.  I just don't understand that one, unless you have other reasons you didn't mention.  Do what you need to do, but make sure you're not extending if you don't have to.  A year is long enough already!

Make sure you have a lease.  Even if you're moving in with family, have someone write something up to show that you're paying rent (even if you're not) so that he can get BAH going.

I moved in with my mom when my husband went to Korea.  So I've seen this from both sides.  When he goes to his overseas levy briefing, they SHOULD ask where you will be living while he's gone.  If he gets his orders and there's no specific line in there about the city and state where you will be located, ask (demand politely :) for his orders to be amended.  Don't give up if they're resistant to change them, it's fully within regulation.

    Good luck to you,

  2. no

  3. Nope, they'll move him. And anyone accompanying him to the same destination.

  4. is this going to be his first duty station after schooling? then NO.

If he has been in for a while he can REQUEST a military funded move for you.  They are not obligated to grant one.

  5. Since Korea is a dependent restricted PCS, the Army will absolutely move you. You will also be authorized the BAH rate for wherever you reside.

If it were a deployment, the answer would be different, but for a dependent restricted tour, all he has to do is bring it up to the counselor at the levy briefing and get the process started through the transportation office.
