  1. Yes!  Of course you'll want to go down and visit the falls, that is the most romantic!

In terms of hotels, the best ones (with the best views) are on Fallsview Blvd.  Try for Marriott, Embassy Suites, Sheraton Fallsview, or the Fallsview Casino Resort, if they are within your budget, they are well worth the money!  These are all within a short walk of the Niagara Parkway, where you can see the falls close up!  If you walk north/east along the parkway, you'll come to Clifton Hill where there are a ton of fun attractions.  Get on the Niagara Skywheel (huge ferris wheel) at night for some amazing views!

If you drive north/east along the parkway, Niagara on the Lake is only a short (scenic) drive from Niagara Falls, a beautiful small town with great shopping and dining, and many wonderful wineries in the area.  Ask your hotel front desk or concierge to hook you up with maps!  If you are interested in the wineries, my favourites are Inniskillin and Chateau des Charmes, although Pellar and Jackson Triggs are also very nice.

For dining, there are many great options to choose from.... although there are also many bad ones that I would hate for you to get stuck with for your birthday dinner!  I highly recommend these ones:

-Casa Mia (outside of the tourist area, but will provide complimentary taxi that picks you up from and drops you off at your hotel!)  Beautiful Italian menu, great wine list, nice atmosphere with a pianist!

-Remingtons of Niagara (at the top of Clifton Hill, on Victoria Ave.).  Great steaks and seafood, romantic atmosphere, and "singing servers", a memorable experience for sure!  They also have a shuttle that can pick you up from your hotel, so if you call for reservations, just ask!

-Carpaccio (also outside of the main tourist area, on Lundy's Lane).  You'll have to drive to this one, but it is a "local favourite" of many residents.  Great menu, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, excellent wine list.

-Copacabana (right on Fallsview Blvd., close walking distance from the hotels I mentioned above).  A Brazilian-style restaurant that has great food, good service, reasonable prices, and live music/entertainment on weekends.

-Fallsview Casino Resort (some very nice dining options here... they tend to change often and I haven't been down there in a while, but they generally offer good quality and fairly reasonable prices, options range from fine-dining to casual, to "food court" style quick service which is great for lunches!).

I hate to single these out, but try to stay away from:

    -Casa d'Oro

-The Keg (yes, great steaks and nice view, but the atmosphere is cramped and it feels like you are in an amusement park.... prices are also outrageous).

-The Love Boat (sounds romantic, seafood-based menu that is generally very low quality and overpriced).

Have a great trip!  And happy birthday to you!
