My husband just asked me to find out things about visiting Cozumel, Mexico. Is there anything I should know?

I believe he is trying to plan our 10 year anniversary trip. In the past, he has been completely against visiting Mexico ( I am unsure why). If we are going at all it would be for 3-4 days max.

  1. I have been to Cozumel several times and love the island.  Cozumel is a beautiful place to spend time, and the people there are very friendly and warm.

Cozumel is easy to navigate, if driving, or walking, and you dont need to worry about getting lost as it isn't that big.

The Northern Hotel Zone is closest to town, the Southern is farthest and more secluded, and is closest to the reefs for better diving.

The east side has the best waves, and Coconuts for some of the best food, aside from La Chosa's in town.  Chen Rio Beach on the East side is fun for swimming, but the only safe spot on the east side for swimming.  Dzul Ha, now known as the Money Bar has some of the best snorkeling and some good snacks and beer as well.

Sunday nights is family night around the plaza and a great night to sit and listen to music, and enjoy local entertainment.

I recommend shopping off the main drag, as you will find much better deals further back from the water front.  Also if the locals know that you are not on a cruise ship they tend to treat you much better.

Have a great time if Cozumel is your destination....it truly is a great spot.

  2. Drink only bottled water, not water from any sinks or even water fountains, the water can be contaminated. Keep an eye on all of your things. Be aware of pocket pickers. Don't forget to apply for a passport, if you haven't already gotten one, before you go. Have fun :).

  3. There is soooo much to do in Cozumel!   A ton to see and do in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen and Cancun are not too far if you're up for day trips.  Here is a website that has some great info on what to do in Cozumel, Mexico.

  4. DONT DRINK THE WATER UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND YOUR VACA PEEING OUT YOUR BUTT !!! HAVE FUN

  5. Hi, my husband and I just got back from Cozumel last week after cruising on the Grandeur of the Seas.  It was my first time to Mexico and I was very apprehensive.  Our cruise was wonderful!!  Left Tampa Thursday evening and arrived back on Monday Morning.

We rented a jeep from Alamo and went around the island on our own.  The ruins are nice to see, the water is absolutely beautiful and most of the people are very nice.  Just don't gas up your vehicle at the local gas station.  They roll the numbers to make you think they are pumping gas but they are not.  Just pay the rental car place the gas fee of 15.00.

Shopping is cheap and even better deals inland.  There is a real nice beach on the east side of the island that is fantastic.  Across from it is a bar that you can autograph.  We saw alot of police cruising around making sure everything was safe.

You get to spend just a day at Cozemel but if you do the Carnival or the Royal Caribbean cruises, both of you get to do both.  Also, if you go a cruise to Mexico, don't buy any flowers on or off the ship, because when you go home, you cannot take them thru customs.  Jewelry, not flowers.

The Bahamas are absolutely beautiful too.
