  1. Laurie has the info.  I gave up my child for adoption and he was easily able to find me because I registered.  Hopefully his birth mom registered.  best wishes and God Bless

  2. Sorry to be morbid but check the Rootsweb SSDI first,to make sure shes still alive.Another major problem is ladys change names with getting married.....good luck .

  3. i was adopted and i went to a site that was called reunion.com. i went ot that site and got lucky. a private investigator was in there and offered me her services for free. I am now living with my birth father, i gave him a place to stay after he left my step mom. I was almost 21 when i found him and i am now almost 28

  4. There is a search group on Yahoo specifically for NY adoption searches.  Loads of help and loads of success

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nyadoptees...

Register with ISRR and the New York State Adoption Information Registry; but don't rely entirely on registries - they don't always work because of a variety of flaws (eg if someone is deceased, they can't register and some people have never heard about them and so aren't registered)

My own mother wasn't registered and people ketp telling me that this meant she didn't want to be found.  This couldn't be further from the truth!  She didn't know about the registry and her efforts to find me before the registry came into being led her to believe that finding me was impossible.

Don't let anyone tell your hubby his mother doesn't want to be found except his mother herself.  So many people will try to put him off searching!

  5. Reunion.com or classmates.com for schools in the Buffalo area.

  6. A last name is a good start. Many people who start searches don't have that, yet have been successful.  So, it can be done.

He should sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry at http://isrr.net.  It's the largest reunion registry in the world.

Also, go here to read about some resources and information availability in New York:

    http://adopteerights.net/nulliusfilius/?...

This page includes information on how to obtain non-identifying information (non-id) about his first parents.  This information can include good clues to help.  He should definitely get his non-id.  It also gives information about search and support resources in New York.
