  1. because its still not a COMPLETE fact....

  2. Most people just won't take the time to study the science.  So they make up their mind based on some loud political voice.

There's not much you can do about that.  If he's willing to read something try this.  It's possible that the first page will intrigue him enough to read more.

If not, just give it time.  Other information will be coming in to him from the news, etc.  You can't necessarily solve this yourself.

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  4. Do your husband a BIG FAVOR!

    Get a divorce!

He'll live longer without a nagging wife.

  5. Global warming is happening.

Climate change? Does anyone notice it?

Media/Governement/Schools should make people aware that global warming is occuring. Global warming is a slow process but with big changes with each and every country's environment :)

  6. they want it to not be true

    He is worried

    that his grand children's

    children's

    children's

    etc.

    will be lost in water

    because

    every

    century

    the water

    level

    rises

    12 to 14

    inches!

  7. He's just worried that you'll start charging Carbon Credits to your credit card, or start nagging him to buy you all new Green Eco Friendly kitchen and laundry appliances....a Prius.......solar panels.......no more beef steak for dinner....and have to walk to work to pay for it all.  I don't blame him either.

  8. Some people treat global warming like a religion that's why he gets upset.

  9. Is this like a h**l date thing. Where she is like, too much information all the time! ? He should have learned how to say yes dear your right. The art of reading the sports page while your wife is on and oning seems to be a gift. Many of my friends struggle with this skill. Maybe this belongs in relationships. Did you have a question about the environment?

  10. i don't see it as a case of global warming, surely people can see that what we're doing to the planet is not cool

even if global warming is not yet considered fact we can at least use it to make some changes in the way we live our lives so that we don't damage the world.

your husband is just lazy, happy living in the world we live in with no care for changing it for the better

sadly you're husband is the typical average joe

just can't be bothered to do anything

thats why there is still poverty and famine in africa, why there is still war, people are selfish and can't be bothered

  11. He is not nuts, just intelligent.

  12. Global warming is a real life equivalent of the emperor's new clothes.  People don't want to question the consensus.

There isn't any scientific evidence for it and there is evidence that warming is caused by something else other than a greenhouse effect.  The earths surface is warming faster than the atmosphere as if an increase in solar radiation had caused it.

  13. Does he deny it or just he just not believe the hype. Many people do not believe it will be as horrible as portrayed by the media and politicians, mostly because it is not as horrible as portrayed by the media and politicians. But the Politicians sure will use it as a way to tax us. Another problem is the eco-freaks that portray it. AGW believers get quite zealous they are the modern day hippie, if he doesn't like hippies that in itself could be a reason. Global Warming is still a pretty far-fetched theory and many people believe it’s not true, be grateful you have a man that questions things to balance off your easy acceptance. So, you have to choose your battles. Is this issue so important that you are willing to p**s off your husband every day until he leaves? You ever see one of those couples where the wife suddenly gets all evangelical, she pisses off the husband and nags him until he leaves. Trust me from the husband's perspective, it a horrible thing to come home to every day after work. Instead of thinking "there is my beautiful wife" he walks into the house and thinks "oh God there she is again, nagging me about this silly c**p." Well that may be the path you are heading down. If he is a good husband and father you might not want to drive him out of the house. I am guessing he isn't too bad since he has not beaten you to keep you quiet. I would say just respect his wishes like you expect him to respect yours, drop the subject, and keep your house a happy house.

Wow Richard, it looks like you are grossly guilty of selective reading.  Perhaps you missed the part about respect. I don't imagine you have been put in a position where you were nagged incessantly about something you don't want or believe.  Maybe you don't have experience in marriage. I just know when I believed something or didn't believe that it was very damaging to my relationship to be nagged every waking hour when I should be home relaxing. Do you believe this issue is so big that this woman should destroy her marriage to change her husband's point of view? It was for a different issue; but I got rid of my ex because she did not respect my beliefs and would nag the c**p out of me every day.

Just a thought; is constant nagging a sign of respect? Are you willing to drive your spouse away just so he will share your belief or lie and say he does just to get some peace and quiet? I am willing to guess that he talks to you less now because he is afraid the topic will turn to this issue.

P.S. I guess this is all marriage advice more than global warming advice. It may help you to accept his differences if you tell him that you will drop the subject forever. Let him know you will respect his differences. Ask him if he will keep you happy by doing things like recycling and shutting off lights when not in use. One of the things that make a strong and good marriage is the differences; you both have strengths and weaknesses. I am sure that many people that were very different than you two have had very good marriages, but you have to either accept those differences or let them rest, or else you run the risk of driving him away emotionally or physically.

  14. Rose, I think the important thing is that you do what you think is right. If he gets angry, he's probably not thinking with logic. He's probably thinking about what he could lose instead of the reality of the situation, which is the world is warming and our actions contribute to that warming. Ask yourself what his motivations are for flat out denying global warming, then arm yourself with data from respected scientific organizations. I added some links for you.

Stinky badger - "be grateful you have a man that questions things to balance off your easy acceptance" and "Is this issue so important that you are willing to p**s off your husband every day until he leaves?"

Sounds like you don't want a woman to think for herself and just do as the husband says, just like a good little wife should!

  15. Humans acting human, lets see. Get him to explain what is going on, I am open to hear what he has to say. Find out if change has happened before, what was that change like. How much education does he have-in what field? Humans thought we can put this stuff in our stream, we found the people upstream were doing the same and the stream died. People though the great lakes could take it, had to clean that mess up. People though the same about oceans, we are killing them off. We could never hurt a system as big as the atmosphere, yes we can. Now some want to send nuk waist to the sun! NO WAY!

Today here is what we know:  many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more destruction.  Blacktop (roads and parking lots), buildings, air pollution (causes lung and other diseases), deforestation, duststorms (which increase hurricanes and cyclones and cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's), solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels) are human problems we need to fix to keep life on earth sustainable! The federal government needs to adopt a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. We must pay the real price of oil (petrochemicals) including global warming, cleanup and for health effects. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with little evidence! The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes. But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and they form clouds cooling earth but causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). But humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected.

That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org, a geoengineering web sight where you can learn more about earth, the atmosphere, and how to sustain life on earth’s surface.

  16. My guess is that he is not as gullible as you are.  He certainly isn't worried.  Being worried over a possible degree rise in temperature in a century or a few inches of sea level rise when it is within the natural variation is being overly worried.  Maybe he is a little annoyed that you are worried about a non-problem.  It has more to do with politics than science.  It has more to do with hysteria than common sense.   A four year old can tell you that there are many benefits to warming.  Why are you so afraid?  I know, because people told you to be afraid.

  17. like many people he is probably in denial.. its easier to deny something and avoid thinking about what will happen

tell him "OK Fine, its not real, but shouldnt we take care of the planet for other reasons, like the fact that pollution is contributing to childhood diseases like leukemia and asthma??"

here is a link about how easy it is to save the planet and save money

    http://www.gomestic.com/Personal-Finance...

  18. people are scared by what they do not understand so the easiest way to get by it is to deny that it is happening

  19. from what I can see global warming is a fact, but whether humans actually caused it or not, that's another matter.  Oh, if you listen to hypocrites like Al Gore we are to blame, we are polluting the Earth at an alarming rate, and the world is going to be an unlivable cesspool in 20 years. Give me a break Al, the world's been around a h**l of a lot longer than we have and most scientists (or at lest most of those not on your payroll) admit that we've not been collecting data NEAR long enough to be able to predict any kind of outcome either way.

Doesn't matter anyway. I for one am NOT going to listen to a hypocrite like Gore anyway. He wants to tell me that my Subaru is contributing to greenhouse gas, and yet everywhere you see him he's getting out of a gas guzzling, limo/tank. Do a little research yourselves, that thing gets all of about 5 miles to the gallon, and belches out more exhaust than 4 of my Subaru, or 20 or my motorcycle. He wants to tell us that guns are unsafe, and that they should be turned in. Sure Al, we turn in our guns, but yet you're surrounded by machine gun toting guards every day of your life. My life is not as valuable as yours? I beg to differ.  And then to top it all off, you've got his wife, the queen of music censorship.

Nah, I don't worry about global warming either. Can we do something about it? Perhaps. Should people change their habits? Sure. More efficient cars, power plants, etc. can only be a good thing. Is Al "chicken little Gore right in his assertions? Probably not, but either way, I can't take a hypocrite seriously.

  20. Many people had a hard time believing that the Earth wasn't flat,or that the Sun didn't go around the Earth. Some still have a hard time believing that. Ignorant people tend to want to stay that way! Just keep leaving newspaper articles around, that show climate change, and it's affects.Good luck!  Here's a good one.....

      http://www.newsweek.com/id/82363

  21. because there are still scientists that dont believe it.  Scientists that are just as credible as the scientists that insist its happening and we did it.  And contrary to popular belief, none of them got any oil money.  Thats the biggest lie/myth in existence, the oil companies dont really care because they know SOMEONE on earth will continue to use oil even if america changes.  Oil companies have 40+ years left of business, I dont think they would waste money on scientists to refute global warming, especially when they need to spend money finding oil in harder to reach places.

There is just enough evidence to not believe it.

  22. because a lot of people are sick of hearing about it. at first most people were concerned, but when scietists start blaming, oh, i don't know, your cat getting it's paw stuck in your freezer door on the unbalanced earth messing with the animal's survival instincts...well, you just don't want to hear anything more about it
