  1. It really depends on the performance time, and the customs of the theater you are seeing it at.  Normally, matinees are less formal than evening performances.  The basic black dress is always a good option, as you can dress it up or down.  Men should wear suits for evening performances, and sport coats for matinees.

Now, realize that this is how one SHOULD dress for the theater.  However, living in San Diego, I've seen shorts at the Old Globe... so, to each his own.

  2. You should dress up and have fun with it. How often do you get a chance to go out in style!

  3. I would dress in a Nice skirt and a really nice dress. There for its not to dressy, but not to sloppy.

  4. A good rule of thumb for going to the theatre is wear what you want and you will be dressed perfectly. You will find that their will be some people there wearing jeans and other people dressed to the nines.

If you are sitting in the orchestra you most likely will be surrounded by the better dressed people so your black dress will be perfect. But even if you were sitting all the way in the back you would be  fine wearing whatever you please.

Wear your hair and makeup in a style that compliments your dress. You can go as subtle or as all out as you please. No one will blink an eye either way. And as you never have a chance to dress up and your wonderful husband has surprised you this way I say go for full tilt beauty. You both deserve it.

  5. Dress comfortable but nice.A simple dress is fine.Your hubby will probably want to go in jeans and a polo.

  6. Well, I guess it would be nice to wear his favorite color, but if it's something weird, like yellow, wear something dark, to fit the theatre, like black, purple, etc.
