  1. It's best if you talk to a DUI attorney.

You can request a FREE DUI case evaluation with a local CA attorney at

  2. Yes, he needs an attorney.

As for the impound fee, it varies. You should be able to call the police/sheriff and find out.

  3. By the time you pay court costs, impound and towing fees, your ins. goes way up, you pay fines and bail, your CDL is suspended or limited

A good estimate for a first time DUI in CA. is that it is going to cost you abougt $10,000.00.

  4. Show up to your court appaerance date on time.  If you do not have an atty, you will fill out a financial questionaire to determine if you qualify for the services of an atty free of charge (a public defender.)  Next, your atty will review your arrest report and get an offer from the prosecutor.  A first time offense is a standard offer, presuming your husband complied with the BAC consent and his BAC was not over .20 and no one was injuried, no accidents.

Generally, a first time DUI is 36 months of probation, completion of the AB541 alcohol class, fines and court costs of $390 PLUS penalty assessments, equaling about $1300 dollars.  Some jail time may be required.  Also, your insurance will sky rocket.  Your CDL will be suspended and/or restricted.  You will pay fines and fees to the DMV.

As for impound, the fees are ridiculous.  They usually charge by the day so the earlier you get your car, the better.  The impounds are private companies.

  5. I went thru the same cr*p a few years ago and I had to pay a whole lot of money, go to AA meetings, alcohol program, go to court a bunch of times to show progress reports, but worst of all is that now a DUI stays on your record till the day you live this earth. Sorry, good luck

  6. Is this his first arrest of any type and first DUI? He needs an attorney right away. We had a car from an accident (not our fault) in the impound yard one day and the tow and impound was $160. But I'm sure it changes from state to state. Just to mention this some states are really setting examples of people that drink and drive and often are given "shock"  time in jail, which it also cost to be in jail. Suggestion GET Treatment>>>>Now,before he even goes before the judge

  7. The cost of the impound is usually about $75-$100 a day. Best to get it out of impound as soon as possible.

Plan on paying about double on your car insurance as well.

Plenty of attorneys to be had that will handle DUI but NONE of them are cheap.

Basically plan on putting out allot of cash in the coming weeks.
