  1. so just text message them

  2. Most cities have an Immigrant Settlement Services agency.  Call them and ask them to refer you to a translator.  Have the translator come to your home and call for you - they will be able to ask the family to speak to your husband.

  3. Hey,

why don't you have an operator talk to them.  Call an operator and see if she can help you find an operator that speaks turkish and communicate with them.

  4. Sometimes men can be insensitive about calling, not knowing the worry they cause. I hope your case is just this.

You may call the family and repeat your husband's name again and again. They are bound to understand you want to talk to him.

PS. It is picking hazel nuts season over there. He may be busy, too.

  5. There is a 4 star hotel in Giresun that must have English speaking staff, the details are here:

Why not phone or e-mail them and see if they can help?

I once got some flowers delivered to a friend by phoning the nearest hotel and that worked.

  6. Call the Turkish Embassy near you, If you are in an English speaking country, they should have English speaking people working for them.  Explain the problem, they should be able to find something out for you.  Essy has given you the links you need.

You could also call the Embassy of the country you live in, and ask if they have an embassy near Giresun where you can talk to someone about this.   Good Luck

  7. The best thing to do is to call the Turkish Embassy in the country you're in. If you're in the US, try the URL www.turkishembassy.org to find out contact numbers. The Turkish Consulate in Chicago has been very helpful in the past. You can give the people at the consulate the phone number of your husband's family and ask them to contact the family.

Alternatively, you can contact the Giresun police (their web is  http://www.giresun.pol.tr/ ). Though I'm highly suspicious you'd be able to find someone who'd speak English. So I guess contact the Turkish Embassy in DC or one of the consulates.

On another note, Giresun is a lovely town and it's very safe too.

Also, here is the US Embassies in Turkey. I'm sure they'd be very helpful too.

Calling Turkey can be expensive, since I'm sure they'll put you on hold for a long time. You can try buying a phone card. CTA cards (gold card for Turkey) is very good. For $5 it gives you about 3 hours.

    Good luck!
