I have found a really good post with an idea for using the rating system as a way of categorising what you want to have synced .. before I use this idea, any others? Thanks. (And not sure how to acknowledge / thank people, so would be grateful for guidance on this too!!)

  1. the best way to reduce space without sacrificing as few songs is to right click them and click "convert to AAC" AAC is apple's music format and it actually makes the songs somewhat smaller letting your iPod hold more.

Also if you have an iPod shuffle you can set it to where it shuffles the songs on your iPod each time you plug it in so you have all new songs/order each time you listen.
