Question:

My iPod video was drenched in salt water, please help!?

I went to an all-day beach party with an iPod in my pocket. I went on a boat forgetting about it, and when I got off, the water was deep enough to drench my shorts up to my waist. I found the iPod and tried hitting each button, sliding the hold thingy, and nothing. The screen was completely blank. This happened around 12:00 noon.

I got home later that night, at around 10:00 PM, and tried plugging it in to my computer. The screen is showing up with a message: Please Wait, Very Low Battery. A little wheel is turning under the message. Unfortunately, we just recently formatted this computer's harddrive, so I have not yet had a chance to reinstall iTunes, so I cannot tell you if it's coming up on the program. It does not appear to be showing up under My Computer. If I remove it from its connection to the computer, the message blurs and goes away in about 30 seconds.

I briefly checked Yahoo! Answers, and only managed to see one question about this before anxiety took over and forced me to write my own question, but one answerer had an interesting solution to the problem: Leave the iPod in dry, uncooked rice for a few days, which will absorb all the water from the iPod. Any comments on this?

Any suggestions at all would be extremely helpful.

I have over the day gotten used to the idea of not having an iPod, as I can't pay for another, being a jobless 15-year-old, and would be too lazy to get all my old songs back anyway, not having an iTunes library.

Thanks in advance!

  1. If it was salt water, you'd best take it into an electronics repair shop and ask them if they can clean it and get it to work.  Salt water is an electrical conductor, so much more damage can be done than if it had been in a freshwater lake.  Leaving it in rice will not completely fix the problem, because some of the water would have evaporated, leaving salt residue behind.  Two things to remember whenever you take your electronics for a bath the next time: never turn it on or plug it in to see if it works, and always remove the battery as soon as you can.  If it's a freshwater situation, let the device dry out for a week in a warm place, or try the rice method.  If it's a saltwater or swimming pool situation, you may be out of luck.

  2. that happened to mybrother with his ipod video and his ipod wouldnt turn bak on......so basically he doesnt have his ipod aymore...u might wanna take it in to get it fixed but its probably gonna be really expensive.....good luck..

  3. I dropped mine it the pool and put it into a bowl of rice and the rice will suck all the water out of it. This will take a few days.

  4. Get Itunes on and plug it in.

  5. the dry rice is a good idea, and if that doesn't work try cotton balls, or a repair shop. At least the screen doesn't have a big spot that shows through...does it? if so there is no help, if not just turn it to the side to try and get the water to drain. if you give it a day or so, the water will be gone but some of the salt will remain, looking much like battery acid. It's hard fixing an i-pod when you can't actualy see it. Good Luck : )

  6. You probably shouldn't plug it in again, wait 24 hours before plugging it in again. The electricity will short out ipod. My last Ipod went through the washing machine, and was fine after a few days.

  7. get your buttler to go buy u 1

if u dont got 1 get ur parents to get u 1

  8. there's a warranty on those. look up the legal junk on apple.com. if your warranty is expired, see if you can take it somewhere and get it fixed. if you can't afford to that, you are screwed. best of luck.

  9. lol uir screwed man sorry

  10. Try the rice trick....you got nothin better to do.....the circuits are probably fried tho "/
