this is my idea of a flying car, the car would look like a normal car but it would have two pipes in the back shooting out fire so you would lift off. then there would be a leaver that changes your angle. if you pushed that all the way down i would eject through a small door and angle you for lift off. if you got in a crash like.. FALLING there would be airbags on the outside and a parachute. to change angle you would pull or push on a lever that push weight down to make you go down or visa versa. so what do u think?

  1. sounds like it wouldnt work and be really expensive

  2. I don't understand, if you push a leaver all the way down, you're ejected through a door (and out of the car)?

And to change angle you can push or pull on a lever that pushes the "weight" down?

  3. Your 10 year old son's idea huh? Rrrrrrrrright.

  4. Did you go to school?

  5. I'm sorry to have to tell you that your concept, as presented above, is unintelligible.  You and your son need some basic education in science and engineering before presenting such an idea.

But go do that.  You never know what you might come up with.  Good luck.

  6. It sounds like you're thinking about rocket power. That takes a lot of energy and fuel. By adding wings, the amount of fuel required would be much less. The wings would enable the vehicle to fly, while forward propulsion would be the only fuel consuming power. A rocket uses more fuel because it not only needs to provide propulsion, it also has to do what the wings do. Since the 1950s, flying cars have been built and advertised, but people just don't really like them, and don't buy them.

  7. I really liked your airbag and parachute idea. I'm assuming that by airbag, you mean like TONS of airbags popping outside the car's exterior, so the car would bounce instead of smash. That idea actually is practical. NASA used that approach to land their Mars landers and the only concern was the airbags being punctured by sharp rocks. You might also need a computer to determine when to release the parachutes, because if the car is tumbling, releasing the chute at the wrong moment might just entangle it. Keep working on the design =]

  8. There are cars that have pipes in the back that shoot out fire...jet-powered drag cars. I've never seen one of them take off and go airborne, though, so that wouldn't work.

The most successful flying car was the Aerocar, and even that was not without problems. It had to be front-wheel-drive so the differential components wouldn't disintegrate upon landing, it only had brakes on the rear wheels, and it required aviation fuel.

Anyone who operates an Aerocar also needs a pilot's license. I don't think the FAA would be too wild about thousands of additional aircraft choking up air-space like that.

Your idea is intriguing, but as-is, it wouldn't work. I don't think a flying car will ever be practical.
