My idol is Viv Richards, expresses Bazid Khan – Cricket News Update
The out of favour Pakistani batsman, Bazid Khan, has stated that cricket has been his obsession since childhood and revealed that the legendary West Indian batsman, Sir Viv Richards is his idol.
Bazid is the son of the former Pakistani opening batsman, Majid Khan. The right-handed batsman came through the ranks of junior cricket in Pakistan and has represented his country at the Under-16 and the Under-19 level.
At one stage of his career, Bazid was considered amongst the most talented batsmen in domestic cricket of Pakistan. His brilliant performances in domestic cricket earned him a call-up to the Pakistan team and the batsman subsequently made his One Day International
debut in 2004 against Zimbabwe and the next year, he made his Test debut in the Caribbean.
However, Bazid failed to cement a place in the national team and a few cricket analysts in the country feel that the right-hander was not given enough opportunities to prove his mettle at the international level.
While talking to Pakpassion, Bazid expressed that since childhood, he wanted to become a cricketer and the sport is in his blood.
Bazid said, “It was a childhood obsession. You can say that the first thing I ever did was to take up the bat. So, it started off just as a hobby and passion, and then I played a lot of cricket in school.”
Bazid plays for the Khan Research Laboratories in domestic cricket, and his performances in the current season are good.
The right hander also said that he is a big fan of Viv Richards and revealed that he came to know about the achievements of his father as he grew older.
“My all time idol was Viv Richards at that time when I started [playing cricket]. For quite a few years, I didn’t even know the extent of what my father had done and so, it was only afterwards that I realized how good he was and how good my uncle was“, he
added.
The right handed batsman is still hopeful of making a comeback to the Pakistan team and but at the moment he is concentrating to do well in domestic cricket.
