  1. http://www.reptilecare.com/uvlighting.ht... There is a direct link to uvb lighting

  2. Thats cuz hes not a dog... DUH

  3. To some young iguanas leashes/harnesses can be seen as a "snake" ... Since you don't say what your iguanas SVL or STL is I can't say if your iguana is too small or not ... it can take a while for them to feel safe in leash/harness. If you can get your iguana in a leash/harness I'd work w/ your iguana w/ it on a good couple of months in the house. Iguanas can do crock rolls and leashes/harnesses can be very dangerous and deadly if left unattended.

Of course natural sun light is the best UVB ray to provide him/her but you also have to factor in weather. Collapsible dog crate can work for outside while your iguana is young, BUT you also need to be aware that some of the dog crates the bars may be too wide, so you may need to cover the bars w/ some safe mesh, so your iguana can not escape out. W/ being outside, you can also over heat your iguana, so do know the signs of overheating. 30mins to 1hr outside is estimated to be about 12hrs of processed UV tubes.

There are UVB bulbs that can cause eye damage for iguanas, and they also do not provide the proper UVB he/she needs. The long tubes are better to use, then the bulbs. You do need to replace the tubes, every 6 months, the UV ray does not stay forever.

MegaRay's are the best ... BUT if your iguana is in a tank, it is and isn't good for them. MegaRay's can get a lot hotter. Then that leads to the size of living space you're iguana is living in. Also w/ MegaRay's it is best to have a UV Meter, which aren't cheap. MegaRay's usually last a year or more for UV ray over 6 months for the UVB tubes.

Please make sure that your iguanas temps are also at the proper temps that they need to be out, if not your iguana can not digest his/her food correctly.

UVB: (12 hrs on during day - 12 hrs off during night no light)

US: ReptiSun 10.0 distance 8-10 inches from your igs body

Repti Glo 8.0 distance 6-8 inches from your igs body

ReptiSun 5.0 distance 6-8 inches from your igs body

UK: Arkadia distance 6-8 inches from your igs body

    - You will need to adjust the distance as your ig grows

    - Using a shop light from a home improvement store works the best, get one that has 2 tube plugs and using 2 UVB tubes

    - The UVB listed are in tube form, using the 36-48inch tubes are the best more length for your ig

    - Surface under the UVB tube lights need to be a flat surface if at an angle your igs body will not get the proper UVB threw out

    - There are UVB's out there on the market now that can cause eye damange to your ig

    - W/out UVB your ig may end up w/ MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease)

    Temps:

never let drop below 70F ...

basking 92-96F if temp is too low digestion is slowed too high food digests too fast and nutrition is lost

    medium/middle (overall) 88-92F

    cool 75-84F

at night 73-84F ... having a temp gun works the best to know what your igs body temp truly is.

*** NO HEAT ROCKS PLEASE ... they can cause major burns on the under belly ... igs dont feel heat from below so they will sit there not knowing they are burning themselves ***

    - Depending on enclosure size, depends on wattage, but for basking light (along w/ UVB tube) you can use a house bulb for heat during the day, you don't have to use one of those costly basking bulbs you buy at the store (night if your house gets below 70 a CHE should be used - produces heat no light)

    - Stick on glass thermometers do not work, they can read incorrect, get a good thermometer w/ a probe at the end, and place where your iguana is basking under and at his/her level, you will get more of a correct temp reading

  4. You can buy a uv lamp at just about any pet store.  You should really have this even once your iguana is large enough to go on a leash.  Reptiles need to have a readily available source of uv light.  I don't know what kind of climate you live in, but if you don't live somewhere that is constantly hot, you'll also need a heat lamp.

  5. My iguana is only 15 inches so i usually pick him up and sit in the sun with him, this gives him the uv he needs and forms a sense of bonding.
