my iguana is a baby like 2 or 3 weeks old...he is very attached to me and always climbing on me and if i ever try to put him in his cage he holds on to my fingers

for the past 7 hours he's been sitting in one spot and every 2 minutes he opens his mouth and his tummy bubbles up (he's in my palm)...his eyes are closed and whenever his stomach bubbles he opens them, i read that it may be hot for him but his body isnt warm at all and he's been in a cool room with me for a half hour...i only feed him collad greens, turnip greens, & other leafy greens and ocasionally apples or bananas....i love him alot and im very paranoid so whats wrong with my iguana???

  1. have you fed him?

  2. What is your setup like?  They need large cages with warm on one side and cool on the other.  They need basking heat lamp with a basking temp of 100F.  They must have 12 hours of UVB light a day from a reptile bulb--no glass or plastic between bulb and iguana.  They need a balanced diet...check the link below for correct diet...yours is not complete.  Don't forget vitamins.  Mist twice a day to keep humidity up.  Vet check for parasites very important.  These are tough guys to care for properly.

  3. maybe its hungary

  4. My guess could be respitory infection or over heated. Reptiles are hard to figure out as their outward symptoms dont always match with what may be wrong with them.

I trip the vet would probably be a VERY good idea.

I provide a link below that may possibly help

  5. When was your igs last poo? If he/she hasnt taken one in a while go and get baby food prunes and syringe it into his mouth, yes this may be very messy, but it does help them poo, this may help his/her tummy ache.

Apples arent the best to give to iguanas nor are bananas ... apples too much acid - appetite suppressant ... bananas dont have much calcium ... if you give either it should be very little and not on a daily bases.

Iguanas do open there mouth to kinda taste there air, and for when they are too hot. But you say it is like choking ... my question would be then how big are you chopping your igs food? The food should not be any bigger then the igs head ... if it's only 2-3 wks old you may need to put the food into a food processor or blender to chop the food fine almost like a slush form in a way.

Young igs may not eat more then a few tablespoons so he/she may not want to eat when you wanted it too because it's tummy is full already from eating before, and some young igs like to eat at night when us humans aren't lurking around to watch.

If your ig keeps choking, I would call a herp/reptile vet that knows about iguanas in the morning.

Sorry no more help then what I've put above.

  6. Sometimes, reptiles open and close their mouths when they haven't been given enough vitamins, in particular, calcium. But I cannot explain the bubbling of his stomach. To make sure, take him to a vet A.S.A.P. They are qualified with animal care and will usually do tests to make sure about your Iguana.

  7. I'm not sure. usually they only open there mouths to gape (not sure on spelling) when it's hot, to let out the heat. but if its cold it might be something else. I'm not to sure though. good luck on finding out though. hope it's not sick, I've got 2 myself.

  8. Isn't that how they smell?

  9. maybe hes hungry or thersty of hes just playing or sick some times when their young their sick
