My iguana seems to go from her basking spot, to the food tray, then to sleep...I would like to add something to her environment that may spark her interest. She's a free-roamer btw

  1. Being in captivity iguanas can get bored, because they don't have the jungle like surroundings. No big trees to climb, no big ponds/lakes to swim in. It's can be some what trying at times to keep your iguana somewhat happy.

Does your iguana free roam all the rooms or just 1 or 2 rooms? If she is only allowed say 1 or 2 rooms, try other rooms for her to adventure into.  Some iguanas do ok w/ change, so if your iguana doesn't it can be a little harder.

Please make sure if you have any mirrors that you do cover them, some iguanas have been known to try and attack themselves thinking it's another iguana.

Have you tried to add different greens/veggies into her food? That will at least keep her happy w/ her food. If you girl likes mustard greens, have you tried adding some jalepeno peppers, yellow chili peppers into her staple greens, of course make sure you remove the seeds. My girl loves both.

Do you have a place for your iguana to swim/poo in? I used a cat litter pan (only filled w/ water), and I switched to a long not too tall of a storage bin thing, and my girl seems to enjoy that she poos in there 1-2 times a day along w/ her bath tub pooing time.

Do you have like ladders in the room(s) your iguana is allowed to go in? Iguanas love to climb, so using like closet shelves, some how attached to the wall or something may spark her interests a little. I know some iguana w/ free roamers actually attach shelves to walls for there igs to climb up, so the room pretty much converted from a room to an iguana house/room.

Some ppl say iguanas like to watch fish ... I don't know if that is true or not, maybe getting a few fish see if that helps.

Iguanas aren't like cats/dogs where you can give a toy to and call it good, so it can be sometimes hard to think of safe things for your iguana to do.

When you say sleep, is this at night time or like little cat naps during the day? If iguanas sleeps during the day for long periods of time this could be a health concern. Some iguanas do close there eyes for a few minutes a day, but if it is for long periods a day, that can be a sign of something going on.

    Sites for you to read:

    http://www.greenigsociety.org/ - http://www.iguanaden.org/ - http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/index.html

I don't recall if any of these sites above gave any tips on how to keep your iguana from being bored or not.

  2. probably a big water fall, I built my iguana that I used to have a huge water fall in his enclosure, he loved it! and was so happy with it! He would bask in it, and run around his cage alloott!

  3. Make its terrerium exciting for it, take it out of its cage and let it explore every other day, buy a harness and leash made for the iguana and let it roam outside. you would be suprised what facinates reptiles.

  4. Iguanas love to swim. Let her swim in the tub or get her a wading pool. I had my husband build a ladder so mine could get in and out of the tub. He would get in and jump at the spigots until we would put water in for him.
