Well here is the story.. she and her ex (on and off) husband keeps getting into nasty fights and every time the cops comes she says that she will kill herself and hits her head on the floor so instead of getting charged or arrested they just take her to the hospital. She does have a violent temper and once even threaten to knock down the steps at her parent's house.

*** she did tell me that she says that she will kill herself on purpose because she knows the cops will not arrest her.

Does the police still make records of how many times someone call the cops for her? If someone knows what she is doing and tell the cops what will happen?

  1. depending on the state is how it will be handled. The chances of her actually getting arrested are decent enough since you only have so many police in one area, someone will figure it out. Till then bide your time, they might even lock her in the looney ben for an extended vacation.

  2. Yes, if the police are called out there enough times (several times during an eight hour shift or just repeatedly throughout the week), the police or dispatch will keep a record of each visit.

Unfortunately, the way your in-law is acting seems more like a mental illness issue than anything the police can possibly charge/arrest her for. If the violence is extremely severe, I'd suggest trying to get her help.

If, however, she's only behaving that way to get herself and/or her husband out of trouble, mention it to the cops. Tell them how often they come out there, how much time they spend each time they come out there, and how they could be better serving the public if they didn't have to answer this same call repeatedly. Basically, give them the information they need to put her in jail. They don't have the benefit of your observation.

  3. Yes, the police keep records on how many times they have received phone calls on a person.  If I were you I would tell the police that this woman is nuts and has threatened to commit suicide.  The police will make sure she gets admitted to the hospital and receive some proper treatment.

  4. In Wisconsin threats of suicide get you 3 days in a mental health facility.  That's it and it doesn't seem to matter how often the police are called.

However Police are Human believe it or not and they talk amongst themselves.  Sooner or later they will start charging with makeing false reports.  Or they will not respond as quickly to a report and one time it will be serious.  Your in-law will face the music sooner or later.
