My in-wall A/C unit is not running cold anymore

Air conditioner not working, also I don't have the condensation running off onto my patio. I don't know if this is normal for the condensation to do this or not. I have been trying to catch it with a pan so as not to have it run all over my porch/patio. Does this need serviced?

  1. Yes, condensation would be normal unless it is very dry in your home.

Your compressor is probably not running.

Check different settings on your control and ensure the thermostat setting is lower than room temperature.

Could be an electrical problem such as a thermostat, system switch, capacitor, wiring or the compressor itself.

  2. I think a service call is what you need.  I have central air as opposed to a wall unit but this is how mine behaved when it needed freon charging done.  The service technician came and it was a fairly simple operation that took only minutes on their part.  It was a bit expensive, but it is a necessary process.  That did the trick for me, hopefully it will for you as well.

    Good luck!

  3. You might just need to recharge the system with freon.  Unfortunately you can't buy freon without a license so call a tech.

  4. Sometimes the water on the outside of the condenser will freeze.  That prevents air from flowing through the fins. This usually happens when its hot and humid.  Try shutting the AC off for a while.  If you get water dripping on your patio again leave it shut off until the dripping stops.  That means the ice has thawed and air can flow again.  It should work until it ices up again.

If that doesn't cure the problem its time to call a refrigeration specialist.  It might need to be recharged with refrigerant or the compressor could need replacing.

  5.   Honey! your AC is frozen then when you shut it off is melts the ice forming in the circulating Vent that traps dirt and recirculates air
