My internet conection keeps going down?

On the trouble shooter it has been suggested that the default gateway or the proxy or the firewall settings,how do I rectify this.

It migbt be best to check with your service provider first. There may be issues in your area - don't adjust any settings til you're sure what's wrong.

I wish I knew, I am with bt and mine seems to go down as soon as I go to do something and will come back on when I turn everything off. Sometimes when it goes down I click on games on my computer and play for a couple of minutes, that seems to bring it back on most of the time.

if youre wireless you might want to makesure that your wep password is entered correctly, if directly connected you should try and go back to a saved point on your computer to when your internet was functioning. If all else fails contact your provider support and they can help you

Some software has an option to cut off the connection if there is no activity i.e the computer is left unattended for a few minutes. You might want to check that and deselect it if you don't want it to function.

are you using wireless? Default gateway is probably your router

Can't help without more information. Is this wired or wireless, modem or router, is the internet connection stopping, is the wireless stopping? Can only make very dangerous guesses without all this.

You haven't said but if it is wifi, try altering the aerial position on your PC. I had no speed and lost connection just because the aerial was not sufficiently vertical. A quick fiddle and I got 54mps instead of 2 to 12!
