  1. Hi there

I use an iMac, old G4 and iBook to connect to the internet. I use a modem that has a built in router. Do you? For this answer I will assume that you are and that you are HARD WIRED to this modem/router.

All your computers must be set up this way:

    - From the Apple menu open System Preferences

    - Click on NETWORK

    - From the LOCATION drop down menu select NEW LOCATION

    - I recommend naming the location the same as your Internet Service provider and click OK

    - From the SHOW drop down menu select BUILT-IN ETHERNET

    - Click on the TCP/IP tab

    - From the CONFIGURE drop down menu select USING DHCP

    - Click on the APPLY NOW button.

That's it. Your modem/router should assign IP, Subnet, and Router numbers automatically. If they pop in, you are now online.

If you want to use your iMac's AirPort wireless card use:

    - From the SHOW drop down menu select AIRPORT

and APPLY NOW. Now disconnect the Cat5 ethernet cable from your computer to router. Other than that everything is the same.

I use the Zoom X6 and am connected to ATT without a hitch.

Let me know if this helps.

    Gary

PS - Check out Apple User Groups to find local folks that can help if you need it.
