My ipod always freezes what should i do??

my ipod will play then it will freeze then it will play for litteraly a sec or to and freeze agian. then it will shut off then turn back on play for about 5 min then freeze agian. then shut off and then you have to wait about 3 days to use it agian .what am i supposed to do the thing is 4 years old and i have never had a problem with it. and i love it i listn to it ALL the time i couldnt live without it what do i do????

try and hold the menu and center button and your ipod should restart. if not, take it back to the store
