My ipod touch just erased all my music and videos by itself. wheres my back up

my ipod was hooked up to my computer and i was putting music on it, then out of nowhere the ipod restart itself and everything was gone, my music and my videos. all my settings were still fine though and it still has the same setup i had. all it deleted were my music and my videos and my pictures. so when i plug it in its says backing up my ipod so shouldnt there be a back up of my music and videos somewhere?

iTunes doesn't backup your media, but it does backup all your personal settings, all you can do is to insert all your media back again in iTunes if you in fact have the media.

When iTunes backs up your iPod it backs up your settings, passwords, etc. It doesn't back up music or videos. You'll have to just put the stuff back on yourself.
