My job's in Danbury, CT. But I want to live in central CT. Can I avoid the drive by taking the rail?

I need to live close to Hartford, CT but plan to work in Danbury and don't want to drive the hour if I can commute via rail. Other suggestions for areas to live would be great too. I have a family with kids, so SAFE areas please.

Hartford to Danbury is pretty far and there is, of course, inadequate rail service here.   Hartford is not served by commuter rail, thank the inept Conn. DOT.
