  1. In order to be a RN you must get a Bachelor's for that it is required to go to college.  You can take college courses while in the military but becoming a nurse while in will not be possible.  So doing it right after A School isn't possible.  You also have to do all the necessary qualifications for your job.  You could use Tuition Assistance and get the basics out of the way.  Then when you get out go to college full time to get a BA in Nursing.

  2. If your talking about taking college courses for RN then it is totally doable.

once you arrive at your final command, then you just have to right a request chit to take college courses, once the chit is approved then you can go over to the navy college and get all set up. They will help you develop a degree plan and get registered for whatever classes you need. At first you will have to take AP courses and prerequisite courses for your associates.. Don't forget CLEP and DANTES courses in addition to regular classes to clear up those "c**p" classes and get on track with your nursing courses.

It took me about 5 years to get my BA in psychology...and another 3 to get my MA. The navy will not pay for my PsyD though.

Once you get your BA though, you can apply for officer programs, which I guess I should have done I could be an officer by now...but being an officer isn't for everyone.

As for becoming an RN while you're in the Navy..well I wouldn't plan on getting a job as an RN, but you can do your required clinic time during your off hours and leave period.

  3. If you are in AS "A" school it will be awhile before the Navy will even consider you for nursing school. They have made an investment in your "A" school training and want to get some productivity from you in that rating. I don't believe the Navy is into sending enlisted personnel to one school after another just to have a well rounded sailor.
