  1. Depending on what you want to do, If you want to go for Karate go for it. Also you have to think which one you like better, and the one your better at.

  2. get a horse and runover him

  3. It is your life pursue your interests.  You are lucky to have different interests.  Anyone who tries to pigeonhole you into one activity is being closed minded.

  4. Watch the Karate Kid 1 & 2 and it will all make sense (the 3rd one sucked)

    Goodluck.

  5. Chop him up into sushi with your bare hands.  What a nerve of him!!!!!!!

  6. your teacher just wants whats best for you and your full commentint.but its up to you.what do you want to do

  7. When you do somthing, your supposed to do it well, and put your all into it. Especially martial arts, you either do them, or you dont, you know? Doing them as a little thing on the side occassionally, wont get you much more than the odd tid-bit of exercise everynow and then, and it just becomes another boring sport. Think of your priorities, talk to your mom, talk to your sensei, explain the situation, and hopefully they'll understand whats what.

  8. If your karate is free then your instructor shouldn't be mad that you're missing it. When I was in junior high it was difficult for some of the guys I played baseball with who were doing karate at the same time. Karate should probably have a season like baseball or football, so that kids can play as many different sports as they would like to.

  9. Well I see both sides of the story here honestly.

You are young and want to do a lot with life.  It appears you chose a school that is very good and the teacher expects much in return for his knowledge as far as dedication goes.

Some McDojo's would care less what you did as long as you paid every month or year, they do not care if you come or not.

The fact that he DOES care shows you that he is a good teacher and cares about you.  He is a serious teacher it seems so you have to ask yourself this question.

How much can I handle at one time and what is most important to me in my life not only now but in the future?

Yes field Hockey and horse back riding are fun but if you are serious about learning Karate then do it!!! IF it is just a FAD or just something you want to do part time when you want to then join a school that will not care if you are there or not and does not take attandance or such.  That is what you need then.

Otherwise you have to decide, am I a Martial Artist which you will learn in life is not just kicks and blocks but a way of life for many of us and it influences our every day decision making,

it would make you a better horse rider and field hockey player also!!

So again what is the most important two or the three things you are doing seeing you seem to be able to Handle two?

Can you not horseback ride on NON class days? School is out now yes?

So I do not think he is ridiculous, he is just a serious teacher that cares about you and your learning a lot and you should actually be honored and happy that he does care!!

Join a McDojo and do all three, or give up one or just do less of one and stick with him. That would be my choice.

  10. Wulf-Troll-Ripper made some good points.  As a long time instructor I understand how your instructor feels.  When ever any of these things came up, I knew that it was a 90% chance that I was going to have a student drop out.  Those things are:

    1) just got a drivers license, a job and bought a car.

    2) young and gets engaged to be married.

    3) going off to college.

    4) going to take the summer off and not continue to train in MA.

BTW   That is why many dojo and dojang run summer camps. It is one way to keep from having a lot of the students quit for the summer. Many times the student plans to come back when school starts but when the time comes they don't come back.

There are other common ones too. When I was young most kids only were only into one activity, aside from going to school.  I am amazed at how many kids thees days are into martial arts and several other activities all at the same time.  It never happened when I was a kid.  Instructors know that if someone is into many things eventually they will have to give up something.

  11. its your life not his. simple as that
