so i have posted 2 questions on here. based on the responses i have changed the heating element, which didnt appear to be the problem.

i also changed the thermostat and thermal fuse. they were 352 and 250 degree replacement parts.

Afger replacing the thermostat and thermal fuse i fired the dryer back up and it worked. so i put it back together and ran some clothes to dry. it ran for ten minutes and tripped the breaker. now it will not heat up again.

please help?

  1. You probably need to replace you dryer's Controlling thermostat.

It is mounted on the blower housing and it judges the drum temperature. The ambient temp inside the dryer on high heat cotton should not exceed 162 degrees F. If it does then the dryer will constantly require the backup 250 degree thermostat mounted on the heating element. Not Good! This cause fatigue to set in on the breaker. Another thing to check is the drum itself. Reach in and try to turn the drum. It should turn easily. If it is hard to turn then you need to check the slide and rollers. A drum that is hard to turn will cause the motor to overload and quit. Another thing you need to look at is inside the filter housing. You really need to remove it and inspect the blower. Wash the housing and remove whatever is inside the blower housing. Finally make sure the vent is clear of any lint or bird nest that may prevent the dryer from breathing correctly.

  2. HOLD it!!

The heat from the dryer element is not getting passed outside.

    Causes:

    1. Blocked vent

    2. THe fan that runs vis the dryer motor is not turning.

If Irecvall the fan on your unit is on thelower left side as you stand behind the dryer. It is enclosed in the heat carrying tube.

You have to verify that the fan (usually plastic) is still tight on the shaft. Ihave found a couple that after a number of years the fan cracks or comes loose off the shaft.

Naturally unplg the dryer before proceeding.

    Regards,

    Eric

  3. If the dryer tripped the breaker after ten mins you either have a short in the dryer or a breaker that is bad getting hot and tripping! you need a meter and the knowledge to use it if not call somebody who does it will save you time and money!

  4. Kravdraa and A/C Tech  both great answers... I would use the process of elimination .. 1- make sure the vent is clear ( the whole thing not just the two ends, check that sag in the middle) thats the easiest ... 2'nd ...take the back off again  (don't forget the two screws on top, that hold the "lint tube" in place) after you take the back panel off, remove the lint tube (the black thing that the lint screen is in (4 screws, little ones, and have a magnet ready, you'll probably drop at least one s***w to the front of the machine) Clean the whole thing  you'l; be amazed at how much lint is trapped because of a pencil.. If that vent was full of lint, you probably blew the high limit fuse again.. Replace it.. Check the blower fan also while your there, is it secure and no missing fins? Thats the easy steps, now to A/C Tech,. He's right also, I'm not sure about the short in the dryer , you would smell that hot smell like hot plastic before  it pops the breaker (can you reset the breaker right away or do you have to let it cool down? It's really simply to fix anyone of these problems  but go through the process of eimination, and save$$$
