My kenmore ice maker crushes ice instead of cubes need help?

  1. What is a kenmore?  It could be a whirlpool, frigidaire or whatever.  Kenmore is just a name that sears slaps on something made by someone else.  My  parents had a kenmore that did the same thing that yours is doing.  It was actually a frigidaire made ref.  Anyway, the solenoid that controls the crush/cube function is probably frozen.  First, pull out your ice bucket.  On the bottom of the  bucket is a long metal rod the runs all the way to the back wall of the freezer.  That rod runs into a little square hole in the back of the freezer.  The hole is about 1 and half inches square.  Just put your finger in there and see if the solenoid plunger moves up and down easily.  If it doesn't move, then it is frozen.  Just hit that area with a hair dryer and it will release.  If it moves easily, then make sure that the the rod on the ice bucket is seated in there properly.  There are some other things that could be causing this.  But most of what I have seen is the problems discribed above.


  2. my ice maker has a button for crused or cubes very simple just push button in and it works right away mine is a kennmore also.
