It's not that I don't try----he just don't like the greens------like most kids/toddlers. I figured the best I could do is give him those Flintstones Vitamines. Is this a good idea since he doesn't get all the good stuff from his vegtables? Is there something else I could do or use in conjunction with the vitamines?

  1. Offer him some V8 juice and see if he likes it. My little boy does. And remember, toddlers are picky anyway, but there are soooo many different vegetables and fruits out there, keep trying new ones until you find one that he likes. Try soups too (split pea, tomato, vegetable, etc.)

  2. Put some Cheese sauce on his Broccoli.

Put some Cheese Sauce on his Brussell Sprouts.

You I watch that "Leave it to Beaver" Show the episode name is "Beaver won't eat". Beaver won't eat his Brussell Sprouts, and tries everything that he can to get rid of them like putting them in his pocket. Mr. Cleaver makes a promise to him, that makes him eat them, and he eats them again when they go out, on an outing.

    I hope this helps.

So good luck on getting him to eat, his green veggies.

  3. a multivitamin is a good way to ensure he getting all his nutrients, but if he simply wont eat greens but otherwise has a varied and healthy diet , then dont worry, my niece would only eat baked beans for about 4 months! if he is old enough, maybe let him helo you get the vegies prepared, even if it just getting them for you and washing them before you prepare them, also include him when you go shopping, make agame of finding vegies of different colours to have for dinner that night, this may raise his interest in eating them!

  4. this is a good idea, you could also try that V8 juice that contains fruit and vegtable servings in one. it tastes like regualr fruit juice, i think it is called V8 fusion. good luck. and as long as your child is active he'll be fine.

  5. hi, please do not force a child as it is only make it worse. you can start mixing the green vegetables in other dishes. For example, making omelette's and mixed with some chopped green veggies or making rissoles mixed with some chopped green veggies. It worked with mine. Or try to have broccoli then bake it with cheese sauce...with with potato as well. they will loved it. Hopefully it will work with your kid

  6. well if the vitamins dont help. you could give him steriods and he will be getting strong and kind of healthy at the same time.

  7. Yes. Children should take vitamins made for kids. Don't give up on the veggies, though. Find ways to put them in food so he doesn't even know they are there: soups, finger foods, etc.

  8. The posters above offered a lot of good ideas.

Would also add that it's important to let him see you and other family members eating veggies, enjoying them as part of a meal and as a snack. Has he tried peanut butter on carrots or celery?

The only other thing you can do is continue to offer, offer, offer. He may reject, but continue to offer, offer, offer. When he's older (say Kindergarten or 1st grade) you can negotiate or require how many bites. Otherwise, offer, offer offer....

Good luck. I know it's worrying, but it doesn't sound like he's missing meals, starving, losing weight, losing height, or is without vitamins to supplement. He'll be okay.

  9. Try and give him healthy foods in a creative and fun way. I once got an excellent book out from the local library to help with that same situation for my little brother.

    They were called:

365 foods kids love to eat : fun, nutritious and kid-tested by Sheila Ellison

    and

Pillsbury kids cookbook : food fun for boys and girls. --

Hope this helps. . . it worked for me :o)

  10. milk, meat, eggs, and so on helps a lot too not just vegetables. try feeding him lots of fruits after dinner or so.

  11. Hide the healthy foods. Meatloaf: finely chop up peppers, carrots, etc. They'll never know they are there. Be creative. LOTS of creative recipes on parenting(dot)com.

  12. depending on the age you might not want to go with the vitamins. if you do check the label, some are for children over three.

My kids eat fairly well but I still 'hide' things in food.

Any spaghetti sauce should have chopped spinach in it. You can also puree broccoli, squash and zucchini and mix it in the sauce. The kids will never know.

When ever I make mac and cheese I add chopped broccoli or peas.

I slice tomatoes and add them to grilled cheese.

I also 'fry' apples. Slice and peel the apples, melt butter in pan, add apples cinnamon and some sugar with a squeeze of a lemon. My kids devour these. Add some walnuts for good oils and protein.

When I make lazagne I use regular noodles and slices of zucchini, squash or eggplant. Slice them thin and you'll never notice.

  13. It's great that you are giving him vitamins. I would recommend that you do not get into a battle with him about food. Remember that a young child does not need a lot of food. Offer him just healthy foods and don't let him get junk food and sweet drinks in between meals. Keep all that unhealthy stuff out of your house and your child will eat because he will be hungry. I feel that force feeding and arguing about food is the worse thing a parent can do. Also, it could encourage your child to develop eating disorders later in life. So, relax and make eating a pleasurable experience for you and your child. Good-luck and I hope this helps.

  14. Good with the vitamins, plenty of milk, try to get him to try green beans, something that doesn't taste too bad to a child. 100% fruit juice and plenty of fruits. Should be ok then.

  15. No, some kids just don't like green veggies. Giving him vitamins is a good idea. Does he like mac and cheese? If he does, chop up broccoli real small and put in the mac and cheese and see if he will eat that. If its small enough, he won't hardly taste it. Putting green veggies into things that he likes, as long as it doesn't alter the taste, is a good way for him to get those greens.

  16. YES BUT KEEP THEM OUT OF REACH BECAUSE HE MITE RELLY LIKE THEM AND THINK THEY R CANDY AND EAT THEM ALL AND POISON HIMSELF BY ACCIDENT.

  17. I grind and hide veggies in the mashed potatoes. I've also added food coloring to foods to make them special. The best trick I've found, though, is something we call "kid mix". All it is is garlic powder, but I printed a special label from my computer and glued it on. I told the kids that its a special blend of spices that pediatricians researched, and they found that adding kid mix to any food makes kids like it. I just refill when necessary. My kids are 5 & 2, and they both will eat ANYTHING, as long as they see me sprinkle a little kid mix on it. Psychology is your best ally. Good luck!

  18. Buy different kinds of fruits and cut them up and set them out for him to snack on. It's better than nothing. Make sure it's fresh fruit not in a can. Fresh is much better for him. Just rinse it good. If there is one vegetable that he likes better than the others then give that one more often....

  19. Dun give yourself stress... They eat what they want and when they want. If they dun have enough, they will tell you (by crying, etc...). The vitamins you give should be sufficient. Remember, excessive vitamins which are not absorbed into the body is pass out as waste. So, the right dose is just right.

The amount of food a kid requires can be gauge by the size of the kid's fist not the parent's fist. That is the size of his stomach. Hence, most parents tend to over-worry and give too much food.

Too much food can result in obesity in kids and you'll have a harder time later on.

    Relax!

  20. Sounds like we are in the same boat. My three year old is clinically underweight. He just won't eat anything. My doc said play up the foods he will eat. Juicy Juice has calcium as well as vitamin C..so he drinks alot of that. He loves milkshakes, so I make them at home and add protein goodies to them like bananas or peanut butter. Yogurt is good too. We buy the cartoon yogurts, my son is more likely to eat those. And finally cheese. we cut up block cheese into cubes and serve on a tray with olives and give my son a toothpick to eat them with. This makes eating fun. (we watch him closely with the toothpick)

    Hope your son's appetite improves.
