She has GERD. However, I gave her her normal medicine but it didnt help. She has had this for 3 days. She is otherwise feeling fine, eating, playing, etc with no issues. I gave her tylenol,, did nothing. I also used throat numbing spray which did nothing. She says it is at the bottom of her throat/near top of chest. She is 9. Any other ideas before I take her to the doctor? No fever or anything else... feels ok though a bit more sedentary.

  1. good chance it is the wrong antibiotic. Go back to the doctor. Usually within 48 ours they are not improving you should go back

  2. she might have the mumps get her to a dr befor it gets worse.

  3. strep throat has been going around our school/neighborhood. Have her open up and see if you can see any white patches in the back of her throat.

    Strep needs treated with antibiotics.

  4. Has she been eating anything that would cause more acid?  Being that it is at the bottom of her throat/top of chest sounds like heartburn or acid indigestion.  Have you tried any Mylanta or Maalox to ease some of her symptoms?  I know a lot of time the normal medicine takes a period of time before it works.  I would think it isn't a sore throat and sounds more like a feeling of something stuck in her throat.

Is it bothering her when she swallows or are her glands swollen?  You could look in her mouth to see if her tonsils are swollen or if there are any spots, though it doesn't sound viral from your description.

I would try to figure out when she is complaining of it hurting.  If after eating or drinking and playing, it could just be the reflux issue.  Since she has the GERD issues, you are most likely aware of having her sit still after eating and drinking and not laying down right away, etc.  Also watching what she is eating and not too fatty of foods or soda or anything.

Try the Mylanta or Maalox, which will soothe down the throat and esophagus immediately.  Follow up with your doctor as well if it continues.

Good luck & hope this helps and she is feeling better soon!
