why would he tell me no if it was true is there still a chance in this relationship?

I think to a certain degree you have answered this question in part for yourself by saying that your partner was a good man who changed. If that means he is no longer a good man to you then I really feel that it is time for you to reassess whether or not you are "right" to continue in this relationship. If he has had another additional affair whilst with you then what is the point of continuing with things as they are. If he did not then why would mother interfere? I do hope you can find a speedy solution to this problem. It must be harrowing for you.

If you are talking with his mother then does that mean you have a good relationship..if so she's probably right. There will only be a chance in the relationship if he is willling to work with you.
