  1. Ahoy!!      One idea for making paper plate fish is to have them cut a triangle shape from the plate ..this becomes the mouth.

Then help them staple the same triangle on the opposide side for a tail... they can use crayons or markers for eyes  both sides  (the letter O)and fins( the letter C)  Each child  could print their name  around the edge.  Fish could be hanging or taped to a blue background..this activity could be completed after the class has  had lots ofdiscussion ,info. and hands on activities about  fish and are ready to create their own.

There are lots  of water  songs and rhymes and pretending  to use during this time .........take care.

  2. Take them outside and show them how big a blue whale is in comparison to the school. Have them each glue a small picture of themselves on a piece of blue construction paper. Join up all the papers with tape then cut the edges to outline a whale shape. Show them how small they are in comparison to the whale (we all love our own image). Then grow some sea monkeys and surprise them with the fact that those huge things eat such tiny food. They'll be a fun little class pet for a while.

  3. my little sister used to have ocean week at school..and they said that each kid colored and painted pictures of all kinds of ocean creatures, then decorated the walls and hallways with their art.

They also said that their teacher took them for a walk around the school and compared things around the school to the size of ocean animals..for example..she told them that their hallway was about the size of a baby blue whale!

It must have been interesting because that was about 4 years ago and she stills remembers!

    Hope this helps!

  4. make papper plate fish, papper bowl sea turtuls or get a BIG peice of (about 7'x5') or biger and let the kids make a big under water pic for the room, and hang it up.

  5. I have done this - Used to teach elementary school art - Get a large piece of blue butcher paper and tape it to the wall.  The kids are going to create their own underwater scene.  Have the kids make the fishes out of two pieces of paper - stuff with cotton or extra paper - staple - tape on blue paper...Have some of the kids do the coral and kelp..It is so much fun and it looks great outside your room!  They can keep adding to it as they learn during the week.

Oh, to do the coral etc..have them sponge paint it..make sure the kids you pick are well behaved..

I would put it in the halls and all the K classes did it...Our hall looked like a huge ocean.  LOL..the principal looooved it and she was a demon.
