I think he was probably the only one in the class that couldn't do it...but when I try to show him he gets all upset if he doesn't do it right! His name is very simple too...CODY...I think he's just not interested in the reading/writing side of things...any suggestions on how to get him to try at least?

  1. My daughter is the same way and her name is Mya. I made her a book and put in pictures of things that start with each letter on each page. M= milk, mail, mom, money.

  2. All children learn at different times and what I have found is that if they don't want to do it then they wont.  My eldest daughter who is 11 months older than my second has just taught her sister how to write her name.  One thing I did was dot out their names and they would trace the dots then they just picked it up, maybe you could do the dots in different colours.

  3. Dot to dot it first and let him trace it every day for a week or so then start leaving one letter off at a time. It is easier if they are focusing on one letter vs the whole name. And just tell him that no one writes perfect at first. I would save my kids and date it and in a week show them how much better they have already gotten, it was very encouraging for them to see their progress. Also get a pencil grip it really helped my youngest a lot. Get the triangular one that teaches them how to hold the pencil, all the other ones just confused her, the triangle grip made a huge difference in her attitude toward writing because you can only hold it one way. I just took a grip to school and she used it there as well, they shared all their stuff but the teacher made sure she got the pencil with the grip. After a few months she did not need the grips any more.

  4. Did he start kindergarten early like before 5 years old and have birthday after September 1st? There's a lot of kids that start kindergarten early are more likely has hard time reading and writing. That what happened to one of the kid in my family. He started kindergarten early (2 months before his fifth birthday and has hard time writing at that age.

The best way to get him to write his name is to have him write his name on the lined paper that already has his name on it to trace. The next line below that, have him write his name 10 times each days until it gets better.

    OR

he might need to use his other hand, he might do better with his left hand if he's using right hand. He Might be left handed.

    I hope that helps.

  5. maybe he just needs a way to relate!

  6. The easiest way to teach a child how to spell is to make a song out of it and have him write down a letter each time you say his name in a song.  The rhythm will help him remember.
