My kitchen faucet makes a loud humming noise..?

It lessens when the flow of water is lighter, but happens with both hot and cold and you can hear it resonating through the pipes through the whole house. It's a cheaper faucer that I installed about 6 years ago....do I need a new one? What's up?

  1. You might just have dirt build up in the cap of the faucet.  Try unscrewing the cap where the water comes out and clean the screen part out you might have chunks of dirt or sediment build up.

  2. Check/tighten the washer inside

  3. SOUNDS LIKE AIR TRAPPED IN THE LINES. THEY MAKE A NOISE SUPRESSOR YOU CAN GET AT THE LOCAL HARDWARE STORE.

  4. ..because it doesn't know the words?

OK, I had my joke, now I'll vote for responses that say check the washers.

  5. May just be a cracked washer. Although sufficient to stop water from leaking by, the cracked washer can "flutter" and set up the harmonics your are hearing. Check the shut-off valves under the counter as well for the same issue. Cheaper fix to replace washers than replacing the faucet if you don't have to!
