My kitchen sink garbage disposal reeks pretty bad, and I can't seem to find a good way to keep it clean for more than a week. It's almost like food waste just sits in there and doesn't go down the drain. Anyone know a good way to really, REALLY, clean out that area, since it's hard to get to?

  1. see if you have an " S " trap between the sink and disposal.

the little dab of water they retain keeps any smell from rising out of the disposal.

  2. lemon juice

    grind up some lemon pulp

  3. you can try those drop ins for the disposal. you drop it in and grind it up with running water.  or try bleach.

  4. Your disposal may not be working at full efficiency any more.  If it's more than 10 years old, think about replacing it.

Other than that, dump some Arm and Hammer Baking soda down there once a week.

  5. Owners manuals often recommend grinding up ice to clean out the disposers. But that will only clean the grinding area.

It is possible that smell is coming from the plastic piping and in that case you need to disconnect and clean out the plumbing under the sink.

  6. Put on a rubber glove & clean the under side of the rubber ring.
