I've been using it once a week (for two weeks) during Simba's bath to help get rid of fleas.. until I read the bottom of the directions :| Why is it bad to use it that much? What can it do to him? And don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering. I'm going to follow the directions from now on.

  1. If it's flea shampoo it's medicated and could irritate the skin if used to much.

  2. It probably just dries out his skin or something, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're that paranoid, maybe you should call your vet.

    Good luck :)

  3. you don't want to over-medicate the cat.  also, it can dry out kitty's skin.  try a good all natural flea shampoo instead.

  4. there are side effects, although I'm now sure what they are.  you could try going to the manufacturer's website to get a material safety data sheet (MSDS).  that should give all of the information you need to know

  5. The shampoo can dry out Simba's skin if used too often. If you really need to bathe him again you can try using Dawn dish washing soap. It really does work to kill fleas. Investing in Frontline would also be wise. It would cut down on all the baths your kitty is getting.

  6. Cats and dogs can't tolerate the constant baths it strips their coats and skin of their natural oil and leaves them very itchy and very scratchy.  The pesticides in the flea shampoo can be toxic if used to often.  Which is why it is also not recommended that you never use any kind of human shampoo OR dish washing detergent on a cat or dog.

Cats in general don't need baths.  Period.  Today, when you can purchase flea products from your vet like Advantage or Frontline that do an excellent job of getting rid of fleas and keeping them away, why even put yourself and your cat through the stress of a bath when its not really necessary.  Cats are good groomers unto their own, and with a little help from you and a good brush your cat can be well groomed and shiny without a water bath.

  7. Many flea products used for cats are specific. There are not many flea products for really young kittens. You can over do any product. You need to take care of the fleas in the house, the bedding, carpet, etc.

Please be aware that  flea/tick products are not harmless!!!! Read and follow directions closely. Adverse reactions such as seizures and even death have been documented.  Any bathing will kill fleas. You can buy "flea combs" which have real fine teeth and you comb the fleas out and drown them. Never use any product not specified for use in kittens/cats!
