My kitten is about 4 or 5 months old and won't stop peeing and pooping on the floor!

His name is Tigger. He recently got real jumpy and lazy. He used to play constantly and be real energetic up until about a week ago. Now he likes to sleep and lounge around all day. I lightly smacked him in the head (not hard, more like a pat) for tackling the girl cat we have (she's pretty old) and he jumped up and bit my hand! Not hard, but I don't know if he was playing around or not. Plus he recently started peeing and pooping wherever he wants. We have two litter boxes that we keep clean for the most part and he stopped using them. He goes in the corner of the dining room, under the beds, in the closets, and on piles of clothes waiting to be washed. My mom will give him away if he doesn't stop. I will be heartbroken. I love kitties. Maybe he is in heat? I don't know if male cats go into heat. Please help if you can. Thank you. =]

  1. Male cats do not go in heat. Try getting another litter box. You say you have two, but one more box that the number of cats you have is best. Also are your litter boxes close to each other? They should be scattered throughout your house. Kittens can't hold it the way adult cats can.

If you are still having problems after this I recommend getting a litter called Kitten Attract. It's got an herbal attractant meant to make your kitten want to go in the box. It also come with a booklet with more tips on potty training and re-potty training.

I hope you figure this out. Don't give up on him!!!

  2. Hitting a cat doesn't do a l**k of good.  Next time keep a squirt bottle or gun handy and squirt him when he acts up.  Hitting a cat for bitting you  is like hitting your child for hitting another kid - just doesn't make sense.  He was just asserting himself in the household when he tackled the older cat, or plain old trying to play (he is a kitten after all)...let her disipline the kitten, a quick WHACK across the head by the dominant female cat will handle him.  As for the peeing and pooping - try cleaning out the box more often (with two cats, you should have 2-3 litter boxes).  Also, he may not know how to use the box or forgotten....pick up the p**p and put it in the box, then take the kitten and GENTLY use his paw to cover it up and praise him like he just won the lottery each time.  If he is peeing and pooping in the same place, use cat NO! (found in pet stores) on the area as directed.

  3. Cats instinctively use litter boxes.  It may be that your kitty has a bladder infection and can't tell when he has to go, and ends up going right where he is.  Please take him to the vet... this is easily stopped with medicine.  Good luck... and ask your mom to wait until he's checked by vet.  He should be great afterward.  (No, male cats don't go into heat.)
