My kitten is around 8-9 weeks old...?

we adopted him 1 month ago (vet is guessing that he is not about 8 weeks because he is 2 lbs). We adopted him from a local animal society, but were not told that he was 5 weeks old rather that he was 10 weeks and he was 1.2 lbs. We took him to the vet immediately and found out that he had coccidia and roundworms and got meds for both. 2 weeks later we found out that he now has coccidia still. Anyone know how long on meds it may take for him to be rid of it? He's eating a lot, gaining weight, growing, and is very playful. He was put on the same meds as the 1st time, but a higher dosage since he is 2 lbs. I change his liter every other day and scoop it every day too.

Any suggestions about what to do for the coccidia?

  1. Here is an article about coccidia and the treatment.  I hope you find it helpful. Good luck!

  2. You should contact the veterinarian that prescribed that medicine. Then he could always tell you what is wrong.

  3. You never really 'get rid of' coccidia; the cat gets to a point where it can keep the parasite in check and it doesn't cause problems.  Some cats take longer than others.
