he's 13weeks old and has been sick twice over a few days. also with this he has diorhea.. he's not himself and is crying (other than when I'm nursing him in my arms). I have been feeding him dry food, he normally has both, as i thought this would help. I have an older cat and he may have been eating adult cat food too. I'm so worried about him. he obviously hasn't had his injections yet. could he have something after being in contact with my eldest cat who goes outside? i have a vets appt on tuesday but i think he may need seen to earlier? has any1 ever experienced this with their kitten?? please reply. mathanksanx!

  1. You should take him to the vet because my kitten had the same thing and she died because of dehydration due to the diarehhah(sp?)

    yeah take him the vet.

    good luck!

  2. when any animal is sick specially young animals dehydration is a major concern. It could be worms making him sick also I lost a kitten once to round worms I didn't know she had them until after she started getting sick by the time I took her to the vet she was so dehydrated she didn't last long after. I would take him in as an emergency if at all possible.

  3. Hi,the kitten needs to see a vet straight away you must not leave it until next week, I am sure they will see the kitten sooner because they will know that these symptoms are serious for a kitten and can be life threatening if the kitten does not see a vet urgentley.

    Good luck.

  4. I think you have an emergency situation here, but it is best to let your vet decide.

Since your vet appointment is still a week away, I would contact them, describe his symptoms as you have to us and see if they can see you sooner.

At his young age, not eating and diarrhea can be very dangerous due to dehydration.  And he does not have a lot of body weight yet that he can afford to loose.

You can check for dehydration yourself and report the findings to the vet when you call.  To check, pull up a little of the loose skin on his back in the area of his shoulder blades.  Let the skin go..if the skin stays 'tented' he is dehydrated and he needs to see the vet today if possible.  If the skin eases back into place, he is becoming dehydrated and needs to see a vet very soon.  What you really want to see is that skin you pulled up 'snapping' back into place.  That is a good sign.

Another thing you can check for info for the vet is the color of his gums.  His gums should be a nice flesh pink color.  If they are pale or whitish, let the vet know this too.

Please hold off on the dry food for now.  See if you can entice him to eat a little meat flavored baby food, just be sure it is the ones without onions.  I keep Gerber and BeechNut for mine.  Baby food doesn't have the proper nutrients for regular diet, but can be good when kitty isn't feeling good to jump start their eating.

Make sure he has plenty of fresh water, too.

As for something your older cat brought in to him, that is very possible.  But if your kitten nursed from his mother until he was at least 6-8 weeks old, he would have gained some immunity from her.

Hope it is nothing serious and kitten is feeling better soon.

    Purrs to you and kitten.

  5. Yes, you need to get the cat to a vet asap.

  6. plz go to vet

  7. One word: Vet!

    Oh, and another: Vet!

And finally ........ oh, you get the idea. :-)

Seriously, dehydration is a concern even for an adult cat, but more so in a kitten. Also, just think how the poor mite must feel - pretty awful I should think.

    Good luck!

  8. It is time to call on your cat's vet.  Not tomorrow but not.  Think, if you were sick, would you appreciate your owner waiting for a convenient time to tend to your illness?  I didn't think so.  So do the right thing.

    All the Best
