I don't know what else to do. She's about 4 months old and we've had her for about 2 months. She was having a lot more trouble before because she had worms. For some reason during that time she was going on my bathroom carpet. We took care of her worms and she went from pooping 10 times a day on my bathroom floor to twice a day on my kitchen floor. She's got her own litter box. We clean it out daily. We've tried moving the box to the area she usually goes, but she still doesn't p**p in it. She always pees in it and once in a while she'll p**p in the right place. We've changed her litter twice and nothing seems to help. I praise her anytime I catch her going in the box and scold her anytime I catch her not. But she continues in her ways.I've seen her go to the litter box scratch around and then hop out and search for her usual spot in front of the kitchen door about 10 feet away. What's that about? Is there hope? I'm getting tired of picking up p**p and moping my floor everyday.

  1. Some cats don't like to pee and p**p in the same place.  Try adding a second litter box, preferably in the spot where she goes now.

  2. Hi,

I've a 4 month old kitten too. First time cat owner. On the whole he's really good about pooping in the litter tray but I notice that he will p**p outside it on occasion when either:

    (1) he's stressed - the first time I had to wash him I think he was just upset by the whole experience

    (2) when he's being naughty! Or very nervous / over excited about something (just like little children I guess). I had to exclude him from my lounge the first time I had a group of visitors as he went mad and wouldn't calm down - he left me a little, um, present right outside the door. I know, hilarious!  But, yes I know, not when it happens all the time...

    (3) when I changed the litter without thinking to one he didn't like / was freaked out by change clearly - I had to go back into the bin and get some old litter to sprinkle it on the new litter tray. That was just me being thoughtless though...

    (4) when I first got him and changed food around a bit - when I found food he ate (and he would eat himself till he threw up I'm sure) his smelly poo and pooing in the wrong place stopped

    (5) when he had ear mites and wasn't very well - if her behaviour isn't linked to (1) - (4) above I'd maybe pop along to the vet and have her checked out. Also, if you're worried about costs now is apparently a good time to take out insurance. I got some online and it only costs £5 ($9) per month.

Anyways, if none of the above then I'm out of suggestions, Hope it resolves itself. I know how frustrating it can be, especially when they're so tiny and you're worried there's something really wrong  with their insides too.

Let me know how it goes
