  1. If the kitten is young than the mother cat carried it off and abandoned it. We had a cat that his mother did that to, my grandmother found this kitten in her basement and my other took it home and bottle fed it. Once it was seven he died of a heart problem, my mom said he was probably abandoned by his mother becuase he had somthing wrong with him. Also, he thought he was a dog and whenever someone came to the door he would run to it and start meowing! :P Once he jumped on some ones head! ^_^

  2. I agree with Hedge witch's answer. You should try what she has told you first, then is that doesn't work, you should make flyer's, and just use the mother cats picture, and write a brief description of the baby cat!

    Hope you find the kitten!

  3. hey my mum always says put butter on there feet when u bring them home that way they can smell there way back but best thing u can do is leave food out every night so if its hungry it will come back

  4. the kitten will need to eat soon.  set out some food on several small plates.  this will help you zero in on the area where the kitten is hiding.

then put out more food but closer to the house.  if you see the kitten, do not spook it but hold out a plate of food and sit very still.  hopefully it will come back to you.

  5. Why would you allow your cat pregnant with kittens to be outside?  This is an IQ test and I hope for your sake and the kittens that it's just found another home and not another hungry animal.

Here are some resources for your if you decide to make your cats indoor only

  6. Kittens don't run away on their own, the mother took it away. For some reason the mother did not feel she was comfortable where she was. That's not your fault, mother cats are odd. A good way to find the kitten, follow the mother cat. She might lead you where she has the kitten.

  7. post flyers

so people are aware and can try to get it back to you!

  9. How old was it?  Very young kittens don't run away - they are carried away by their mother.

If the mother carried it off then she will either be looking after it or has abandoned it (or killed it herself).

Try walking carefully around being VERY quiet & see if you can hear it crying for attention.

  10. You don't say how old the kitten is and that will affect what has happened to it.  Also you don't say whether the mother is also spending a lot of time away from home.  Kittens don't run away - the mother moves them, either carrying them in her mouth or leading them to a new denning site (which could be indoors or outdoors).  Usually the mothers do this because the current den site (your home) has been disturbed or the kitten(s) handled when the mother doesn't want them to be handled.  Unfortunately that can even cause the mother to eat the kitten (mostly they do this with young kittens, but I have seen a stressed mother cat eat kittens that were 6-7 weeks old).   If it's outside there's a chance a larger animal will already have taken it.

You could try leaving some food around in the hope the kitten and the mother will both come eating it.  If you know for sure it is around, you may have to hire a box trap from a humane society to trap it.  Unfortunately you're likely to trap lots of other animals while trying to catch the kitten so you have to check the trap from a distance every few hours.  If you keep an eye on the food and you don't see the kitten at all over the next week or two, then it has either left the area completely or is no longer alive.

If the mother has taken it off to teach it to hunt then it's possible she will bring it back.  If she's moved it to a new den then she'll be spending lots of time there with it - you could try watching where she's going or following from a distance.  If it has vanished and the mother is spending all her time with you then it means the kitten is probably no longer alive (and she doesn't need to be with it).
