I think so! Cat's are way smarter than they let on and they have absolutely zero respect for their people! For instance my cat will have no problem crawling all over my laptop when I'm trying to type.

My kitty pouts when I'm not paying enough attention to him, he also knows what he's doing that's really cute. So when he knows he's in trouble he'll just do something cute to get out of it.

Your kitten was probably just trying to make you feel bad for not revolving your entire world around her/him!
