Question:

My kitten won't use the litter box. What do I do?

I've had my 3 month old kitten, Casper, for two days now. He's been eating the proper amount of cat food, but he hasn't used the litter box at all. In fact, he hasn't defecated or urinated since I brought him home. I try to take him to the litter box and use his paw to scratch around in the sand. I try to soothe him and rub his stomach but nothing will work. He only uses the litter box as a second bed. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

  1. Your kitten could have a bladder infection. When I adopted my third cat, it very quickly became evident that it's bladder had a problem.  The poor thing would sit on the box seemingly forever, trying, but failing, to p**p and/or pee. Eventually, we were forced to take her to the vet, where her bladder had to be "artifically" emptied by inserting a needle, and manually sucking out the urine.

  2. Every wo hours you would want to take it toe litter box and hod ts paws and let it get a feel of the litter, grab its paw and let it dig in the litter so it gets familiar with it..it willstart using the litter box on its own you just have to keep up the routine

  3. I had the same problem with my salem I got from Petsmart, it took him 4 days to settle in and use the litter box.  Never hit/spank an animal that's animal abuse.

Everytime he does his business where he shouldn't say a firm NO and pick him up and place him in the litter box.

As for obedience use a squirt bottle filled with water and spray him when he is on or does something he is not allowed

  4. if you're postitive he hasn't used the box or gone anywhere else, call a vet! It may be emotional, but it can be dangerous for him. Never rub his nose in it or hit him. He won't know why you're doing it and may come to come to hate you for it. Just be diligent about showing him where the box is when he shows signs of needing to go or if you catch him starting to go somewhere else. Be sure to keep the box very clean, cats hate dirty smelly boxes.

  5. you have to train it. every time it goes in the floor spank it gently on the butt and show it the litter box or take it outside. if that doesn't work go to a training website.

  6. Well sometimes the stress of a new place can mess up a cats nervous system. It's bad that he isn't going so i would call a vet. They might have an idea what is wrong or be able to give you something to make him go. Have you tried moist food? Put some vegetable oil on it. That may help him go till you get him to a vet
