My kittens, they are going to be house cats soo..?

i got two kittens awhile ago, and i'm just wondering so things about them cause they are going to be house cats.

i got two because i couldn't just leave one behind, so i got a brother and sister. they turned 6 months on August 16th so..

whens a good time to get their needles?

and what needles do they need?

when should i get them fixed?

is there certain types of food i should be feeding them?

they are one kitten formula right now.

and should/can they wear collars?

The vets will tell you what shots you need but most importantly Rabies and Distemper.   You can get the fixed  around 10 weeks at some places but all you have to do is call an ask.. Plus they need to be fixed.  You should feed them premium cat food such as Wellness, it does not contain grains... Purina, Friskies and "supermarket" foods are not good for you pets.  their are so many add ins your pet won't get the nutrition it needs. When you look at pet food look at the ingredients it shouldn't say chicken By products.   If you buy quality premium food at a pet food you will save in vet visits and will give your cats a nice coat even if it is more expensive.  Also, Cats should be provided with Wet food once and day and dry food throughout the day.  Cats don't get enough fluid from jsut drinking water, the wet food keeps them hydrated. You should look for the same things in buying wet food as in buying dry. If their indoor cats collars don't really matter i sometimes put a collar on mine..

Some premium brands are Natural Balance (which I do highly recommend), Innova, Eukanuba, and Wellness. However, make sure you always read the label because many premium brands do put grains in their food (actually most do). Natural Balance, for instance, makes a grain free hypoallergenic formula (Green Pea & Duck -which my cats LOVE) but they also make other flavors that do contain rice and corn and other grains. A word of caution about the Hill's brand Science Diet. It is junk! It may seem like it is nice and healthy but just take a look at its label. It is almost as bad as Friskies!

Your kitten should be taken to the vet and get thier shots (needles) now

and have them Spayed./ Neutered they are old enough now.

If you wait longer they might breed.

You can let them wear collars so if they happen to get out other people know who they belong to ... and are not strays.

6 months old!?!

They should already be spayed/neutered. They should be wearing collars, they should be eating solid food.

1. First needles are usually at about 3 months of age- rabies, etc. The vet will tell you what is required.

2. The vet will also tell you when to get them fixed. You'll be able to tell because the normal play activity between the 2, though it continues throughout their lives, will take on some sexual connotations. The male will begin trying to mount and mate with the female. Usually by age 6 months they should be fixed.

3. You want food that is low in ash content, such as Science Diet or I AMs. The vet can also sell you excellent food for them but it's far more expensive.

4. Cats generally don't like wearing collars and, provided they never go out doors unless leashed up securely, they don't really need them. You might want to consider having a microchip injected under the skin so if they do get out and lost, you can be traced and contacted if they are found.

You need to start by weening them off of the kitten formula, kittens should eat kitten formula solid foods until they are one years old.  You also need to take them to the vet asap because they should have all of there first shots by now.  You can also fix them at anytime, and you really should do so soon before they bread with each other and you have a whole litter of kittens on your hand.
