My 2 kittens and my cat have all picked up fleas and i cant stand it :(

We have given them flea tablets by Johnsons and given them Canac spot on treatment but still all 3 have fleas (i know this cos 1 of my kittens is white and i cant miss them on him. They dont have a major infestation just a few on them but i feel so bad for them being bitten and having them crawling around. Can anyone recommend a decent flea treatment in the UK. Thanks in Advance

  1. go to your vet and get the liquid stuff becuase thats the best :)

  2. Well, you first have to remove the adults and eggs with a flea comb.  You should be able to pick one up in any pet store.  The best way to do it is to fill your sink with soapy water (use baby shampoo or kitten shampoo,)  pu the cats in it while holding them up so their heads don't dunk in and comb the fleas out.  They can swim in plain water, but not soapy water.  The comb will grab the fleas and eggs, then dip it in the water so they drown.  Do this until no more are coming out.

You'll need to get some spot treatment from your vet.  Here in the US Frontline Plus works great.  Just make sure to get it from your vet.  A lot of stores sell "fake" products.

Now the fun part...de-fleaing your house.  Fleas lay eggs in carpeting, so do some internet searching on how to do this.  My hands are too tired to go into the details you'll need.

By the way, you are probably getting bit by the fleas, too...

  3. Give your house a complete spring clean! Hover every room in every corner. Do this every day (if you don't already) untill you are sure the fleas and their eggs are all gone. Also, wash there beds and anywhere else they sleep or sit. You should also worn neighbours who have pets because your cats may have caught them from another dog or cat.

  4. Go to you local vets and ask them for front line it works a treat (flea treatment) it comes in a pippet and keeps fleas away for up to 90 days

  5. Hi, all the ones in the petshop are rubbish! The one's the vet uses are much stronger and will do the job.

You can't buy them over the counter at a pet shop, so you will have to pay about £30, but this does the job properly. Go to a pet vaccination clinic or local vet, who will need to see the cat to check it over. Get a microchip while you are there if you have the money.

  6. For a young kitten, less than 8 weeks old, you need to get the Frontline Spray from the Vets (cost about £20 approx).  At 10 weeks, they can have the Frontline pipettes, which is super easy to use and which I use on my 2 year old cat.  But you still need a Vet's prescription to get it, so you may as well go to the Vet's and get it all in one go.

Also, when you start using the spray on the kittens, it will kill any live fleas within 24 hours, but it won't do anything on the pupae.  They will hatch and grow into adult fleas and then die when they get intouch with the Frontline stuff.
