They're 10 weeks old and have these bugs on various parts of their bodies. When I peel the fur back to look they run very fast across the skin into the fur. They look triangular and feel rough on one of the kitten's neck. Like a patch of matted fur. They make the kittens itch but have not affected me. Is there any over the counter medicine I can get? And do I have to clean everything in the room they stay in (my room)?

  1. VET

  2. 10 WEEK OLD KITTENS ARE TOO YOUNG FOR OVER-THE-COUNTER FLEA TREATMENTS.  Those insects sound like fleas.  Take them to the vet immediately, the vet will give them kitten doses of Revolution, which will kill even heavy infestations in a couple of days.

If they are heavily infested with fleas, do this as quickly as possible.  One flea sucks one drop of blood a day.  Young kittens who have a lot of fleas can become anemic due to the sheer amount of blood they lose a day, which weakens the immune system and can open them up to other illnesses.

  3. vet, or if you can catch one, your state should have a farming division that assist farmers with identifying pests. they will help pet owners too.usually for free.

or, call and see if you can bring the cat in for them to look at.

a bug expert identifies it and tells you how to get rid of it.

they should see a vet though, they might need treatment if they are covered in them.

  4. fleas

IF YOUR cat HOUSE HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX.

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, pet beds, car, even wood floors. (NOT ON YOUR PET!)

    THEN VACCUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the flea killer that is on the market or use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppys who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol

  5. The bugs could possibly be spider mites, or fleas as mentioned earlier.  Do they have any rash or skin irritation or are they scratching themselves?  I would recommend having a vet look at them...whatever the bugs are, it is very likely they can treat them effectively.  A thorough vacuuming should take care of the bugs, although Borax is a good option if you want to be very thorough.  Avoid any insecticides, as they can be very harmful to the kittens.  If there's financial difficulty with taking them to the vet what you might do is find an over-the-counter flea treatment (very readily available), try that, and if it doesn't work, seek veterinary treatment.  I'm not sure if flea treatments will work on spider mites.  The only way to be sure is to have a vet look at them!
